Printer wont pick up paper even though the paper tray is full

There probably is a small piece of paper stuck in the paper path. Please take the ink/toner out of the machine and check the paper path. Please turn off the machine before doing this.

I have a Laserjet p4014dn printer. it warms normally but once it picks up paper, it jams. i have dried clearing jam several times but on starting to print it jams

Three areas you need to check.1.Pick up area: While pick up roller picking up the paper, delay pick or no pick causes paper jam..
2.Registration assembly area: Once paper picked from the tray, paper leading edge registered by the paper sensor located under the registration assembly.. In case this sensor dusty malfunction or flag damage, paper wont sense. result paper damage..
3.Fusing area. If the paper travels up to fuser area, check paper jammed before entering in fuser(Teflon not rotating properly, replace teflon sleeve) or just crossed?(check paper sensors in fuser unit, clean the sensors & check flags, flag springs.

Printer does not attempt to pick up paper but gives out of paper message and or flashing paper sign on panel

steps:
(a) driving a pickup roller, picking up printing paper stacked in a paper cassette, and then, feeding the picked up printing paper to an image forming unit
(b) after picking up the printing paper in step (a), checking to determine whether or not the printing paper has been fed to the image forming unit(c) when it has been determined in step (b) that the printing paper has not been fed and a paper feed error has been generated, again driving the pickup roller, so as to attempt to pick up the printing paper stacked in the paper cassette again.

The printer keeps saying paper jam. I am using 65 pound paper and I changed the setting to card stock. Is there a trick to loading the paper?

Hello,
I believe that if the printer is having problems picking the paper up it could be due to the pick up roller not having enough strength to pick up such a heavy paper. What you can do is make sure that the printer has the latest firmware installed as well as that the paper is properly placed and adjusted in the tray.

The printer will not pick the paper from the lower tray. It tries to pick the paper from the upper tray even though it is set to auto pick the source but will not pick from the lower tray.

Hello, just clear paper pick up roller.
Open front cover, remove toner cartridge and you will find paper pick up...use wet cloth or alcohol to clear it... Good luck!

Dell 1700 will not feed paper

If your Dell 1700 laser printer is not pulling paper all the way, try cleaning the pick up rollers.

To access the pick up rollers. Turn off the printer. Unplug everything from the back of the printer. Take out the toner/drum and set this aside out of the light (the drum is effected by light). Remove the paper tray. Set the printer on its backside. The rollers are located on the underside of the printer where you just removed the paper tray. You may have to move a blue flap to get at the rollers. Take a damp paper towel and clean these off. Another possible solution is to take the grey rollers off and turn them inside out and then place them back on the printer.

The pick up rollers should not be shiney, or cracked and dryed out. If they are, they will not pick up the paper to feed it into the printer. The tires should have "traction" to them so that they can grip the paper and feed it into the printer.

Once you have the tires cleaned off or turned inside out and placed back on reassemble the printer and try printing.
