This is probebly a firware issue. All you will have to do is download the latest firmware update for your Laptops DVD driver. Be careful however that you must get the correct firware driver for that specific river, failure to do so can cause permanant damage. That is why I have not just given you a website where you can get it as I do not know the model number of you Aspire.

You can try using a different USB port on your computer, or even a different computer to try to recover your media. You can also try pressing and holding the Play button for about 15-20 seconds while you connec the device to your PC and see if it will recognize it that way.

Otherwise, you may be stuck just having to do a firmware reinstall. Not all firware updates erase your media, it just depends on what firmware you currenlty have installed, and if the fimware reinstall needs to delete all of your media, it will inform you in time to cancel. U can't upgrade firware,it not a free software,only companies use these.
Use lower speed if 1-16X just use 1-12X.

can you tell me how you updated the firware and who did it???
you need a special service tool to update a canon copier,
sounds like it has failed and needs re doing,
usually only canon techs have access to the service tool you need and the Firmware.

needs firmware reloaded common problem with this model, you need to get a canon tech in to fix it. need special software tool to rleoad firware and only canon techs have it.
