SOURCE: Sound but no picture
there are several things that need to take place for the lamp to turn on. first the color wheel needs to turn on ( if you can hear a whinning noise then this is fine) next the tv will send a signal to the lamp ballast to turn on, and the ballast needs the 130v dc supply from the power board ( simoly remove the lamp and reinstall the lamp door, turn tv on, and if you hear an arcing noise from the ballast you know this is fine too. the board that controls all of this is the dmd board. so if the color wheel works, ballast starts then i would replace the dmd board....

The color wheel is bad. Mine did the same thing, eventually the wheel shattered, pieces of glass everywhere and picture was black and white

What you're hearing is the most likely the color wheel if you remove the lamp you can see part of it ...a multicolored plastic disk.It rotates on a high speed motor and make an awful whining noise when it fails.

It sounds like your color wheel. If you are handy at all you can change it pretty easily for the price of the part (probably around $90-$110) and a couple hours of your time. Here is a link to a video showing you the step by step process. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx4pbNjsxfU good luck..
