What is the solution for a knob that won't tighten on Hayward Super Pump?

Hi, my pool was opened yesterday by a pool company. They didn't lower the water at all and it was way above the jets with the pump running and filter set to recirculate. I shut off the pump and switched to waste out. Turned it back on and immediately one of the two knobs on the pump cover popped off. Shut off pump. I went to screw it back in, but the knob doesn't catch. The other knob is still in and is tight. The pool guy is supposed to come back today, but haven't heard back...Does it seem like he over-tightened or possibly normal wear and tear. Is this fixable or part replacement? thanks!

Sounds like it is stripped out. This does happen overtime. You need a new Hand Knob Kit. You can find one here:

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Pool pump will not fill back up

It sounds like you are sucking air into the pump. Make sure strainer baskets and pump baskets are clear, and the valves are in the right position. Also check the water level in the pool, and make sure that the pump is not sucking the skimmer dry. Next try lubricating the gasket on the pump lid, or if it is in bad shape (flattened/cracking) replace it. If this does not solve the problem put silicone around the inlet to the pump (silicone is a temporary fix that could last days or months--for best results replumb with teflon tape and sealant). If all that fails you could have debris stuck in the impeller.

SOURCE: Hayward sand filter needs primed every time

The problem is a malfunctioning check valve. It'll be somewhere in the line on the pump output side. If it's not a separate fitting it'll be in the line, probably in an elbow.

Need further info, let me know...

SOURCE: air in filter on hayward above ground pool.

This is common the first 30-60 seconds after turning the filter on. The filter is purging its self of the air, sometimes algae or small debris will shoot back into the pool as well.

If it is constantly getting air then replace your o-ring on the that clear cover (Strainer Cover) make sure you use a lubricant, and like djtc66 said re-wrap all threaded areas with teflon tape.

Is a knob that won't tighten on hayward pump normal wear and tear?

it is possible that the knob was overtightened. check the slipping knob to see if there is a crack in the shaft. the other option is that it is stripped.
either way, it will not be considered normal wear but you should be able to find a replacement knob at your local store

Where can I get a new start cap for a 1 hp Hayward super pump

Find out your model number on your pump by checking the hayward site, for the super pump the parts manual is http://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/Parts%20Diagrams/Super-Pump.pdf
Once you figure out the part number for your super pump you can call a local pool and spa shop and they will order it, you can google the part number, buy it off amazon (personal choice), or call hayward at (908) 355-7995 (U.S.) to buy a replacement

I need a seal for my 1.5 horse power SPL pool pump, but I cannot find it. The company I bought my pool pump no longer carries Jacuzzi pumps. Is there somewhere I can get it or another seal I substitute?

Any pool store in your area should have a 201 mechanical seal available. If not, try looking under pump repair for a shop in your area. It is a very common seal and is interchangeable with the Hayward super pump seal so it should not be hard to find.

I have a hayward super pump sp1607-z-1-mx, 1 hp, worked yesterday, when I turned on today it made a different sound and blew the breaker in the house. Whats wrong?

Most likely problem is that either a gear was stripped or something blocked the impellor from turning. They are a pain in the you know where to open up and would void your warranty (if it is under one) if you do it yourself. But if you don't have a warranty, then download a diagram from the Hayward site and go for it.

Pay particular attention to the impellor area when you first open it up. If a rock or something got into the line, it could be very minor.

Pool pump turns off after 1/2 hour or so but I can turn on manually after it sits for a while. Timer is working fine. Hayward Super II around 5 yrs old. Do I need to replace this motor? This problem just...

Your pump is protected by a thermal device that shuts it off when over heated. Are you running 110 or 220? In my experience, your pump will run cooler on 220 ... consider coverting if appropriate.

My Hayward super pump is leaking water where the two large sections come together with six 9/16 bolts at the very top. I replaced the large flat rubber seal and even tried silicone on the faces that come...

Take the two sections apart, remove the seal and put the two sections back together. You will be able to see any gaps if they are warped. A straight edge might work too. Also inspect the surfaces for any cracks. The can get a hairline crack if the sections are tightened to tight, and the seal is out of the grooves. If all is ok, silicone the seal, silicone the grooves, then put the pump back together. This will help keep the seal in place. I just use a pool/spa sealer like Leslies Pool and spa lubricant.

6 years is a good time - you must have house for your pump :)

If you are close to a pool shop - take it in and get it tested - somtimes it will just need a service.
