Hi, my pool was opened yesterday by a pool company. They didn't lower the water at all and it was way above the jets with the pump running and filter set to recirculate. I shut off the pump and switched to waste out. Turned it back on and immediately one of the two knobs on the pump cover popped off. Shut off pump. I went to screw it back in, but the knob doesn't catch. The other knob is still in and is tight. The pool guy is supposed to come back today, but haven't heard back...Does it seem like he over-tightened or possibly normal wear and tear. Is this fixable or part replacement? thanks!
Sounds like it is stripped out. This does happen overtime. You need a new Hand Knob Kit. You can find one here:

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you are sucking air into the pump. Make sure strainer baskets and pump baskets are clear, and the valves are in the right position. Also check the water level in the pool, and make sure that the pump is not sucking the skimmer dry. Next try lubricating the gasket on the pump lid, or if it is in bad shape (flattened/cracking) replace it. If this does not solve the problem put silicone around the inlet to the pump (silicone is a temporary fix that could last days or months--for best results replumb with teflon tape and sealant). If all that fails you could have debris stuck in the impeller.

The problem is a malfunctioning check valve. It'll be somewhere in the line on the pump output side. If it's not a separate fitting it'll be in the line, probably in an elbow.
Need further info, let me know...

SOURCE: air in filter on hayward above ground pool.
This is common the first 30-60 seconds after turning the filter on. The filter is purging its self of the air, sometimes algae or small debris will shoot back into the pool as well.
If it is constantly getting air then replace your o-ring on the that clear cover (Strainer Cover) make sure you use a lubricant, and like djtc66 said re-wrap all threaded areas with teflon tape.

Check to make sure the plumbing is in the correct inlet/outlet on the valve head. Sounds like it's plumbed backwards. Inlet is from the pump, out to pool...
