SOURCE: disassembly instructions

To disassemble the 8000 Series shaver. Remove the plastic cover on the bottom that covers the corded socket. Be careful, there are a total of two tabs on the short sides and four very small tabs on the long sides. I usedmy fingernail to create a space big enough to insert the corner of a credit card in the center of the long side opposite the blue light indicator, then gently removed the cover. Using a screwdriver could damage the plastic. The two sides then pop off, they only fit on their respective side when replacing. Don't lose the two small black seals on the top of each side piece. There are a total of four screws holding the body together. Remove the screws, using the proper flat blade or torx screwdriver. The shaver will then split into. You can then remove the the Motor Drive Unit and the separate circuit board with the batteries. This would also be a good time to clean the goo buildup from around the shaver head. Assembly is the reverse of above. The Motor Unit will only fit in one way, there is a flat side and a angular side. Be sure the pin for the trimmer in placed in its proper hole, or it won't extend. A good place for parts, http://shaveroutlet.com/.

SOURCE: suddenly, the trimmer blade of my braun 8985 shaver

If you've used the shaver for a very long time, it could be that the trimmer part has worn out. You can buy a replacement body for your 8985 that includes the trimmer, from shaveroutlet.com. Replacement is not very difficult (not soldering involved). You pull off the bottom plug socket, take off the sides, unscrew 4 torx screws on the body, and the shaver comes apart. Good luck!

Braun 8985 replacement foil and blades is braun series 5 combi 51S foil and cutter replacement pack.

But costomer reviews in amazon.com who take braun series 3 combi 30B foil and cutter replacement pack is fits to Braun 8985 perfectly, very smooth and close shave. Shaves much better than the Braun 51S screens foil.

I have the Braun 360° Complete 8985 Electric Shaver, and ive learned that it is pritty much gonna keep being a money hole. Can any one suggest a self cleaning brand that is more reliable?

The self-cleaning shavers are all much more expensive to maintain than traditional non-self-cleaning shavers. Your model 8985 is not inherantly more expensive to maintain than any other self cleaning model by Braun or other brand. The cleaning solution is expensive, the cleaning machines break because of exposure to liquid, and the heads often wear out faster as well.
Because of this, I strongly suggest you buy a shaver without a self cleaning machine. Most models that do not include self cleaning machines are very easy to clean with an old toothbruh dipped in rubbing alcohol. If you liked the way the Braun shaved when it was in good condition, I would suggest the following models linked below as possibilities

New head

Hello Brian, You can give the folks at www.electricshaver.com a try. They typically stock all the replacement and repair parts for most brands of electric shavers.

Here's a link to their site where you'll find part #5646768 for about $38 for a new set of the cutter head and foil (screen). It's always best to replace BOTH the foil and cutter block (head) at the same time, as any mircro burrs or nicks in the cutter blades will quickly ruin any new foil screen.

http://www.electricshaverstore.com/get_item_5646768_braun-foil-cutter-kit-360-complete-8000-series.htm

As you know, this is the simplest and easiest way to get an electric shaver back to a "like-new" shaving experience.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
