These carbs are kind of touchy. If you are handy, remove the air cleaner, Pinch off the fuel line. pull off the fuel and move it out of the way. Remove the nuts that hold the carb and and remove it, being careful when unhooking the linkage.Drain the gas in the bowl and remove the cap screw at the bottom of the bowl clean the bowl with spray carb cleaner, lay it aside, on som carbs the cap screw has a very tiny hole, pull a wire from a wire brush and clean the out. next look up the brass part hanging down and see if there is a slot for a screw driver and being very careful unscrewing the jet. Sometimes you need to put the carb in a vise and tap on the jt and turn it at the same time. After you get the emulsion tube ou there will be some small holes that will need to be cleaned with your small wire. Then spray all the carb holes with carb spray, remove the float and needle and spray this area and on the inside at the bowl base there may be a small round thing sme smaller than a dime you willsee a small slot that needs to be sprayed also. put the emulsion tube back being caRFUL NOT TO TIGHTEN IT TO TIGHT. Put the needle and float back in and then the bowl being careful with the gasket install the cap screw. and replace the carb being carful of the linkage, and attach the fuel line.. You may have to pull the plug and put about a squirt or two of gas or carb cleaner in the plug hole to help it start. Good Luck. if you have any trouble let me know.

Briggs and straten...875...190cc will not stay running,it`s surging the whole time and then just stops

It sounds like you may have a cracked float in the carburetor. It surges and when the float is saturated, it stops. If you don't feel comfortable putting in a rebuild kit, you may need to to take it to a small engine repair place.

How do adjust for Speed stability on Lawn-Boy mower. It hunts up and down.

Speed control for motor is controlled by an automatic governor, so there isn't any adjustments. Surging is caused by an air leak. Has the air filter been changed? Spray card cleaner around that side of the engine to find the air leak. Does it have a choke adjustment? Make and model would be handy in answering this question!

Surging

Doesnt sound like governor issues
Sounds fuel related
You need to remove your carb. and tank assembly as one
Take the carb off the tank and replace the daiphram& gasket between the two
note how the old one came off.
Sometimes the common fuel we have now with 10%ethanol effects rubber parts and causes them to fail prematurely.
you may notice the old gasket is wrinkled and maybe not pliable like it should be.
while you have the carb apart give it a fairly good cleaning with a air hose
be sure not to overtighten the bolts that mount the carb, back to the tank.
Be sure your fuel you are using is fresh

hope this helps some for you

Briggs & Stratton Quattro lawn mower engine. Runs rich and unevenly. Suspect carb and have used sprey carb cleaner. Any suggestions??

A lot of time when the small motors on these push mowers surge it is a governing spring that is weak or broke. It does not hold enough tension and causes the valve to fluctuate. I have fixed this many time for a relatively cheap amount (under $5).

2 1/2 Briggs......doesn't run smoothly....surges at all speeds.

Hi, Check that you have the correct spark plug fitted or fit a new one as it sounds like your plug is getting hot then shorting out.
Sometimes the magnito can do this as well. but I would start with the plug.
