You could open it and tinker around, but since those are very expensive controls to repair once a customer has "tinkered" with them, I would suggest bringing it to a Bernina repair shop.

SOURCE: Needle won't move on Bernina 930

If the machines motor is running but the needle isn't going up and down then the baste stitch finger is gummed up and needs to be serviced.  This is a simple fix and it happens all the time on those machines.  Take it to your local Bernina dealer for a standard service.  Also if you really need it in a pinch try pushing up on the needle bar that sometimes will fix the problem but it will still need serviced.

My needle on my 930 Bernina machine is supposed to stop as soon as I lift my foot off the pedal. It stitches two or three more times.

The right side cover must be removed and the stop linkage lubricated and reset. A service tech issue, I am sure

Bernina activa 220 won't stop running - sometimes

I've seen other remarks about this problem and one of the suggestions was a bad capacitor. I had problems with my 930 having intermittent starts & stops and we replaced the bushings in the foot control which took care of it.

Is bernina 930 a low shank or high shank machine

Bernina has feet that are specific to their machines only. They have old and new style feet depending when the machine was made. You cannot put generic low, high, slant or snap on feet on a Bernina sewing machine.

Bernina machine starts sewing anfmten stops or doesn't start at all.

Be sure that you regularly clean and oil your Bernina. If not oiled regularly, the old oil turns to varnish and actually freezes the parts. Some people believe something is wrong with the motor or foot control, when really it just needs some TLC to keep it running smoothly.

May be one of several issues--depends on the model Bernina. Could be a problem with the foot control. I had to replace a carbon brush in the foot control of my 930. (A new foot control could cost over $160!)

Or some machines (mostly older models, ie 830 Records) have carbon brushes on the motor that wear with age. Once they've worn down, they no longer make constant contact giving you the "intermittent" issue. I've replaced carbon brushes on some older Berninas--usually found somewhere around the motor (look for a screw or knob on the motor). You can buy replacements a lot of places. I've purchased them on eBay.

Bernina 1030 starts by itself and runs very slowly some time after parking the needle at the top

This is most likely a fault in the foot control. Normally supplied with this machine is a Type 10 and this can be fixed quite easily but probably not by the machine's owner unless you have some electrical and mechanical experience.

If you have knowledge of and access to a multimeter, you can test it. What working properly, you will find the following:
Pedal released: resistance is infinite (anything around 4k Ohms or less and the machine will run).
Heel pressed: resistance is about 10k Ohms.
Toe steadily pressed from nothing to all the way down: resistance is infinite then after a small depression, jumps to about 4k Ohms steadily decreasing to zero as the pedal reaches all the way down.

Your problem, being at the point where the pedal isn't pressed suggests that there's some contamination in the pedal. It's also possible that you have a type 365 pedal (as used on the 930) and this is more likely to give this kind of trouble due to the use of carbon brushes in this foot pedal.

I have a Bernina 830, bought in 1978. When I depress the foot pedal, nothing happens. Power is on. Do I need a new pedal?

I've just fixed this problem by replacingthe main capacitor in the foot pedal. I have a Bernina 830. I needed a soldering iron, and I had to buy the right capacitor, but it fixed this exact problem. Btw, a few months ago this problem initially appeared (on my machine) as an issue where the speed was either zero, or full speed). After a white it wouldn't work at all.

Bernina 830, worked fine until today... think it

there is a board inside the foot pedal that goes out sometimes you can check this by flipping the foot pedal upside down and at the top right there is a small hole where you can adjust the speed with a flat head screwdriver but be gentle it breaks easy, if its out you can take it to a bernina dealer and they might have a reapired one or they can send yours off for repair since that part is repair only
