Good Afternoon Friend,

I see that you are having trouble with your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FDF50S, collecting water. First, make sure that there is 12 inches clearance around your dehumidifier. Secondly, the dehumidifier could have been installed recently or restarted recently or possibly there was a power surge. Lastly, check the room temperature. Your appliance will not operate satisfactorily if the room temperature is below 41F (5C) or above 96 F (35 C) degrees. If you are still having trouble, try unplugging your dehumidifier for 3-5 minutes. After plugging it back in, if your dehumidifier is still not collecting water, I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. Hope this is helpful.

Check the settings. Make sure that the humidity setting is at 35%.

In the cooler fall weather, the dehumidifier will not collect much water when the temperature is close to 65 degrees in the area where the dehumidifier is located. Also, if the relative humidity in the space is not significantly above 45% then you will not collect much water. Check these conditions.

The image below shows how to access the internal components of this dehumidifier. Unplug the dehumidifier and check the front and back grill for debris. Clean these parts if necessary. Check the evaporator for a frost pattern. If the compressor runs but you see no frost pattern on the evaporator, then you could have a sealed system problem. This type of failure is normally covered by the 5 year sealed system warranty.

SOURCE: 50 pt. dehumidifier will not

Nothing worked, because the drain hole to the hose connection is clogged or the hose is clogged. When that happens, water is diverted to the bucket.

Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF & Unplug the unit.

Remove the hose and check it for clogs. If none are found, the clog is inside the hose connector.

Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie appropriately sized to fit the hole. Carefully insert the tip of the Zip Tie and continue to push it in, until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will have to gingerly work the Zip Tie past the bend, until it bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly remove the Zip Tie while rotating (twisting) it. This will break up any clogs. As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared as some water that might follow. Even if you don't see any residue from a clog, it may have been pushed out of the way. Reinstall everything, plug the unit in, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and take it for a test drive.

Be sure the hose is no longer than 5 feet and that it gradually slopes down and away from the unit. The water drainage relies entirely on gravity.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

SOURCE: Frigidaire dehumidifier is not collecting water;

There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2..

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have an analog unit
set the humidity extraction knob on Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humid-i-stat has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

I hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

If you have a dehumidifier that is not producing any water then you are wondering what you need to do to get this thing to work for you. In some cases you may be able to do something and in other situations there may be nothing that you can do.

If you do not hear the compressor running and the unit says that the humidity in the room is higher then the setting, then you have a problem with your dehumidifier.

A few things that can cause this are:

The circuit board relay has gone bad...replacement of this board will often cost more then a new unit. This also is a very common problem with many dehumidification units.

The compressor has failed...if you hear a buzz for a few seconds, every few minutes, then you have a bad compressor or at least bad start components on the compressor. Either way it again is a costly repair.

If the compressor is running and the coils are not getting cold then you have a refrigeration system leak. Recharging or fixing these units is very difficult and is another costly venture compared to the price of a new dehumidifier.

If the compressor is running but the fan is not, this also will cause low water production and continual freezing of the coil.

If the compressor and the fan are running but the coil is totally blocked then you will get no water production. Air needs to be continually moved over the cold coil to get the water out of the air.

If nothing is running, then you may also have a control board failure. Or the humidity sensor or humidistat has gone bad which tells the machine to run. If the sensor says that the humidity is low enough then it will never run.

Also if nothing is running check the float switch or the bucket switch. Many of these switches are very touchy and if you do not have the bucket in place just exactly right it will not trip the switch to allow the unit to run. These switches often are more fragile then they should be and break easily. The good thing is that when available they are easy to replace and relatively inexpensive.

There are some parts available for a few brands, but with the prices for most of the parts that you can replace running anywhere from 40.00 - 80.00 dollars, replacement parts with labor to install them, makes a repair more then the few hundred dollar cost of many of these dehumidifiers.

As you can see there are quite a few things that can cause your dehumidifier not to work. Systematically go through the list and eliminate things to get to the bottom of the issue causing your problem and then decide if it is worth spending the money to try to fix the old unit. Only you can make that decision.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier LAD704TDL Trips breaker upon plugging in ---does not light up display and does not come on.

Hi Walter, thank you for your inquiry. I understand that your Frigidaire Dehumidifier is tripping the breaker. I would recommend checking to make sure that the bucket is installed properly. If everything checks out I would possibly changing the fuse in your home circuit breaker and never use an extension cord. Hope this helps! -JK

How do I change the filter on my dehumidifier lad704tdl

The filter on the Frigidaire LAD704TDL is behind the louvered section of the housing above the water bucket. Remove the water bucket by pressing the sides gently to release the bucket from the dehumidifier. Then pull the bucket towards you and use the handle to move it away. Then reach up and pull the filter down. You can wash the filter or replace it with a new one.

For pictures, see the manual: manuals.frigidaire.com/prodinfo_pdf/Edison/66166042enaen.pdf . The filter maintenance is shown on page 8.

    I hope this helps.

    Dehumidifier freezes up

    Good Morning Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# LAD704TDL, is freezing up. If you have turned on your dehumidifier recently, this is normal due to refrigerant rushing through the coil. Frost will usually disappear within 60 minutes. Try starting your dehumidifier on a slower fan setting. Another possibility is that the room temperature is too low or too high. Your appliance is designed to operate between 41 degrees F (5 degrees C), and 96 degrees F (35 degrees C). I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your air conditioner status has changed successfully. Fridigaire dehumidifier compressor gets very hot and no water in bucket

    Good Morning Friend,

I understand that the compressor is getting very hot and there is no water in the bucket of your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# LAD704TDL. I would check to make sure that your dehumidifier has enough ventilation. There should be a minimum of 12 inches clearance around your dehumidifier. Also, make sure that it is neither too hot, nor too cold where you have placed your dehumidifier. Your appliance is designed to operate between 41 degrees Fahrenheit and 96 degrees Fahrenheit. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your dehumidifier status has changed successfully.
