You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password and privileges. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. You can boot up by Hiren's boot cd (live) and startup without mini xp (not mini xp) and choose hard disk tools and choose hdd regeneretor. it will help your hard disk to repair. (Find hiren's boot cd @ hiren.info)

Do one thing Downlaod a Hiren's Bootable CD from the net(it is Free to download). Hiren bootable Cd is a ISO file which you need to burn in CD after downlaoding. After you finish download boot your computer through CD( you need to select First bootable as CD/DVD from BIOS or from Boot Menu). After you boot from Hiren's CD there is a option called "load MINI XP" so you select it and you'll find a WIN XP in your screen which is running through the CD. Now select the Drive or Folder where ever your DATA are store and take back in any external Drive.
Remember you can retrieve your data if your window is not booting.

NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

first thing you'll need is a genuine copy of windows xp to install from.
you will also need to format the hard drive before you attempt to insert the xp disc otherwise it will usually fail. you can do this with the hirens boot disc by going into mini xp then format the c drive.
replace the hirens disc with the xp disc and restart the computer and install xp.

Instruction on how to use it...

The disk is downloaded as an ISO file. The ISO files can be burned using software programs such as Nero. Burn the disk to a DVD instead of a CD by using a program such as IMGBurn.

Booting

Once the disk is burned, place it on a DVD or CD drive on the computer and restart the computer. After the computer displays its default first screen, the disk will scan and load the Hiren's Boot menu. The menu gives users three options. The options are to start the computer normally, load Mini Windows XP or load the disk. Choose the disk-loading option to work within the disk parameters and run in DOS. DOS is a simplified process that uses only text. The CD provides shortcuts to each utility.

Mini Windows XP

To clear a virus and use a large collection of Hiren's Boot tools, choose the Mini Windows XP option. A simple version of Windows XP will load on the computer. It might take a few minutes to load everything because it processes files directly from the CD. Once it has loaded, wait for the Hiren's Boot disk menu to pop up. Select the "Menu" option and scroll through the programs. The disk features Windows password hackers, registry cleaners and a large collection of antivirus software.

Antivirus

A main portion of the disk feature antivirus software. Spybot-Search and Destroy scans a computer for the most likely spyware and removes it. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware finds root kit viruses and Trojans that could affect computers and spread through networks. Super Antispyware is an all-in-one scanner that detects and eliminates all types of viruses. Run one scan at a time. Do multiple scans because one program might find a virus that another program misses.

Burn the ISO image in a cd and boot the system using that cd (Set first boot device as CD-DVD ROM in BIOS).

Select start Mini Windows XP

and reset the password.

seems like an update have messed your xp. if you have a windows xp cd start with that and choose repair mode. then run checkdisk "chkdsk /R" instructions http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=5097
you can also try hirens boot cd. with that you can try start your computer with hirens boot cd(mini xp) and run system restore or run checkdisk.
