Whirlpool Cabrio W10106470 has an F51 code. What is that?
F51 error is a rotor position sensor error, two parts really need to be replaced. 1) the rotor sensor itself ($43) and 2) the control board ($197)
As with most things electronic, when you unplug them for 15-30 seconds, they reset themselves to factory defaults. We did this with our Cabrio washer when it displayed code F 51, because the code F 51 indicates a loss of communication between the control panel and the motor position.
This does not necessarily mean one part or the other is bad; it could be as simple as a loss of communication betweeeen the two parts. Unplugging the unit required the electronics to go searching for each other an re-establish communication. Problem solved!
Had the code reappeared after unplugging to reset the communication between the sensor and the control panel, the next step would be to get into the machine to wiggle and reseat the connectors which could have vibrated loose. I would also use a spray electronics cleaner to clean the fragile and inaccessible contacts.
If the code persisted after that replacing the motor sensor or control panel (or both) is the only option.
