SOURCE: my laptop compaq c700 used

Two possible solutions here:
1) Get the newest driver from Compaq for your laptop video card.
2) There may be a software for controlling how your video outputs that would have come with the laptop originally. This should also be available from compaq.

Why is it that when certain laptops are connected to a projector the display on the screen from the projector is smaller??? i find i have this problem often especially with the series of smaller laptops...

Try going to your "Control Panel" in the start menu. In the right column under "Appearance and Personalization" choose "Adjust screen resolution". From there choose a larger resolution size, preferably with the same ratio as your projection screen!

Need to see display on both laptop and projector

On most laptops pressing the Fn key plus the F5 key (in your model laptop) several times will cause the video to switch to different options
In the various laptops I've used with data projectors it is the same.
If you plug in the data projector and power it up then the laptop then the Windows image will be on the data projector (provided the laptop's screen resolution matches the data projector).
To toggle between the data projector only, the LCD screen, then LCD screen plus data projector, and or back through this sequence, just press the Fn key and the F5 key to get the displays you want .

Infocus projector 4805 connected to Toshiba laptop

1.
Connect the external display port on your laptop computer to the projection system, and then turn on the projector. For information about connecting external devices to your laptop, see the documentation for your laptop computer.
2.
Set the display resolution of your laptop computer to match the resolution of the projector system. First, on your laptop, open the Display Properties dialog box by using the Display icon in Control Panel, and click the Settings tab. Then, in Screen resolution area, move the slider to adjust the display resolution of your laptop. If you don't know which setting to choose, try 800 x 600 pixels; this is a common setting for many projector systems.

Unable to transmit image to projector

Usually you can use a VGA connection cable to connect your computer with a projector. They also have inputs for s-video and RGB but these are much rarer on computers. Once you have connected the projector press the key on your keyboard that looks like a square with two lines on either side (mine is FN+F4) This will shuffle through different setups (mirrored to screen, extended to screen and back to normal) if this doesn't work try plugging in the vga cable and restarting the computer with the projector on.

Screen adjustment

Adjust the screen area of the computer’s display settings to match the projector’s native resolution. Refer to your projector documentation for the optimum or native-resolution setting for your projector model. If you can't find this information or are uncertain, most projectors support a maximum of 800 x 600 pixels.
• With certain laptops, you might need to disable the laptop display to obtain the best image, especially when the native resolution of the laptop exceeds the native resolution of the projector.
• Font smoothing will automatically generate a cleaner font outline, both on your laptop and on the projector. To apply font smoothing, do the following:
1.
In Control Panel, open Display.
2.
On the Appearance tab, click the Effects button.
3.
In the Effects dialog box, select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, and then select Standard or ClearType in the list.

If the projected image is dimmer than it was on the laptop, check your projector documentation for information regarding lamp timers. If the lamp life has expired, replace the lamp for maximum brightness.
If the projected image is not rectangular, try one or both of the following:
• Make sure that the projector is perpendicular to the viewing screen.
• Raise or lower the projector.
If the projected image displays vertical lines, "bleeding," or spots, try one or more of the following:
• Adjust the brightness of the image.
• Check the projector lens to see whether it needs cleaning.
• Adjust the sync and tracking on the projector.

Toshiba LCD projector

always make all connections first !! after that : switch on the laptop, or else no detection of an external monitor/projection device is possible.
Please check also your bios settings, some can be set to force simultaneous display of external screen and lcd of the laptop.
some laptops also require ddc communication between external connected devices.
Try to use a full wired ( except pin 9) VGA cable.

Connecting to a lcd projector

You may want to try adjusting the screen resolution and then hitting the function + F8 (or whichever key has the little monitor logo on it). Some resolutions cannot display on certain projectors.

You can find this setting in the Control Panel, Display, then Settings tab.
