Why does my 973LM liftmaster remote will only open door bur wont close it?

No it is not compatable. You will need a craftsman remote or a universal remote

The remote you are looking for is the LiftMaster Security Plus Series remotes. The 971LM, 972LM or 973LM remote.

ONCE YOU REPLACE THE BATTERY YOU NEED TO REPROGAM THE REMOTE.
