We just put a new battery in our E-machine lap top. Sometimes it starts up fine while other times the power light comes on but that's it.

The battery will need to be optimized, make sure you have the power cord in and start the machine, once the battery is fully charged drain the battery completely. repeat this process 3-4 times

SOURCE: Acer extensa 4620Z laptop computer

It could be one of three things. It could be a bad battery, a bad ac adapter, or the recharging circuitry could be bad. I would try pulling the battery out, and see if the laptop will startup and run strictly off of the ac adapter. If that does not work, you have a bad ac adapter. If that works, and the battery has any charge left, try running it strictly on the battery. If it doesnt work, you have a bad battery. If it does work, the circuitry is bad and you will probably need new motherboard. One other thing you can check is where the ac adapter and battery plug into the laptop, and make sure there is no corrosion that could be causing a short.

Hello,

Well it surely shows that the battery is not providing backup to the laptop. There could be few reasons for the same defective and faulty battery is one of them.

However i will give you a step which you should try once and see if it makes any difference.

Method (Power cycle)

You need to remove the battery, adapter and any other device connected to the computer (May be any additional cards or any wires as for Ethernet or speakers or external mouse/keyboard).

Nothing should be connected at all.

Now Press and hold the power button for 25 seconds (It wont show anything). This is a step to release any static charges developed, which may surely caused the kind of issue you are facing.

Now connect the battery and the adapter and check whether it is charging the battery and provides you the backup.

The usual battery life is said to be 1 year. if you are using an older battery, kindly get the same checked as well.

Hope his will help. Please let me know what happens.

Regards
Sammy

Toshiba Satellite m65s809 has power from adapter green light comes on but no battery lights, computer wnot turn on. will it run with on battery?

Get a new battery O.E.M version for your lap top. Remove the battery and plug it in if it starts and operates it is the battery issue. If it will not start up without the battery installed it is the power supply unit change it out. Hope this assisted you. John

When I push the power button to power the lap top up the light display that says outlet power changes from green to amber and the laptop will not power up.

try removing the battery and just use plug power only if it boots normally then change the battery and the change the power supply unit as well I would just start with the power supply unit first then see if the battery charges up if not the battery is bad replace it. Now if the computer will not start with the battery removed then you have a power supply issue.
Change and replace it. Hope this helps. Also when computer lap top get hot they will shut down to protect the computer wait and let it cool down then try to restart your computer. If this does work and the lap top restarts normally get a fan cooler that is USB powered and the lap top sits on top of it. Also make sure the fan is running and is not stopped. Clean and dust it out once in awhile. I hope this assists you with your problem. John

My Compaq Presario C500T lap top won't start

Generally speaking, an orange power light indicates problems with the power. You also described to a "T" how a bad battery behaves. To test this theory, take out the battery and plug in the laptop. It should power up and run. If so, it's time to invest in a new battery.
To be doubly sure, if you have anyone with the same laptop as yourself, plug in their battery to your laptop. It should work if their battery is good.

Lap top - intermittent power

Hi!
Sound like a similar problem I have/had...
Mine started but always died after a period of time, and the timeframe varied. I was not sure at first that it wasn´t a heat problem, because CPU temp reports constant of 75deg celcius.
I removed the battery and at first it would not start (same as usually after it died) but after a few attempt it booted fine (also as usual). I have tried to start the laptop with the battery in place to repeat the problem but it didn´t. Battery was still not charging so I removed it again and PC is running fine since. God Luck

Packard Bell 4451 lap top will not power up.

check the back of the power connector to see if it is loose. I have known alot of situations were, if not carefully removed, that power connector in the can free itself from the sodder on the Mother board therefore you wont be able to charge the battery nor boot up. hope that helps
