Olivetti PT 505 types the letter pi when small caps m is selected. How do you reset this

If you are using a daisy wheel it will be an International daisy wheel or,check settings to see if it is set at International settings.If it is an international daisy wheel or a PS wheel change them for a standard 10" or 12"

Get some WD40 and spray it on thw segment (the place where the type bars are swung) then everywhere the key mechinism pivots.

I wish I could see the unit. Something is blocking the lift assembly. Something simple I am sure. Lift it and lay it on it's back and look for a lever or spring that may be out of place. Maybe something dropped inside and is jamming it. Big paper clips or if you have a small child around. Little toys, pencils etc. Good luck.

Most likely the platen is not fully seated. Press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place.

It sounds like you installed a printwheel wit a very small font probably 15 pitch put in one with larger print.

It is probably just gummy. Get some WD40 and lube all the vparts and pivot points inv0lved in the shift.

Thje problem with this machine is that you need to use a fast pecking motion when typing. If you press and linger on the keys for too long this will cause an extra space.
