I have a Sylvania tv model number SRT2232X it stays black when turned on and no sound but flahes when its turned off
Main board fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages. Generically speaking anything in the horiz deflection, hv development area will cause a no pix symptom, also a problem in the signal processor section, video river and output section as the crt/socket assembly. I would also check the lopt transistor and probably the fuseable resistors around the lopt.

With the TV disconnected from the mains, remove the back. Clean out dust with an artists long wooden handled brush, see if anything is burnt or blackish. Do not disconnect anything to do with the Tube. Check for any disconnected wires. If all looks well, you may try it with the back off, but do not fiddle with anything in the back, while switched on. Look at the tube base just in front of the Printed Circuit Board attached to the tube base. You should see a glow from the three filaments which heat the cathodes. If there is the tube is still OK, But the line timebase has stopped working. If nothing is working look for blown fuses. Do not just replace them, but let a service engineer know, or write to FixYa again giving more information and your own capability.

replace the yoke return cap. Its a polyester cap. probably 0.33uf and blue. trace back from the yoke connector plug pins. Other than that, look for bad solder on the yoke plug.

Before you replace any parts, have someone (TV service tech) check the vertical size settings in the service menu.
