Your feed dogs sound like they are getting stuck, chec whether they are on the down position, and also make sure that you have cleaned any lint that builds up in the bobbin area, if all fails it will have to go into the technician,

SOURCE: Zig Zag Not working on my Bernina 830.

Basically it is a matter of a stuck part. Flip open the top by prying up on the front or ends of the lid. You already noticed the hinges on the back. When you get it open, exercise the right hand lever on top (marked ZZ at bottom and 1-20 at top. If you look just to the right of this lever against the back wall you will see that it moves a little part back and forth into triangle shaped grooves. The part is not going completely into the grooves so drop some oil in there and exercise it a few more times, using your fingers if necessary to make the part move into the triangle grooves at the front and back. After a while it will loosen up where it should operate by itself smoothly . Hope this helps.

I want to do 2 thread overlock or rolled hem. I threaded the lower loop and needle - doesn't work.

Your owner's manual should have instructions how to set up your machine. You can also, scroll down through the following link, and download the Bernina Serger Workbooks. These are very helpful to work through to figure out how to set your machine for various stitches. You can make notes in the workbook so the next time you want to create similar stitches, you will know what settings to use. Even if you don't have a Bernina, the process is probably similar for the machine you have. (Page 21 has the instructions for a 2-thread hem, but it requires installing an accessory called a "converter.")

Bernina minimatic 707 not sewing evenly

Sounds like it's not threaded properly and or you have tension problems. Re-thread with the presser foot UP. Sew a test seam. If you still get loops loosen the upper tension... a little at a time. Sew tests seam after each adjustment.

The cotton on my bernina 801 keeps jamming

Loops on bottom indicate a top thread tension problem.

Make sure needle is the correct size and not bent or broken
Make sure it is threaded properly with the lever UP.

Do a test stitch.

If it still loops below... tighten the top tension and do another test stitch... keep doing this until the stitch is balanced.

BTW... always grasp and hold both threads when starting a seam.

Why won't my Bernina Activa 140 sew the blind hem stitch?

Are you absolutley sure you're not getting a problem with stitch formation on, for example, wide zig-zag. Check again, using a different colour top and bottom and make sure that the stitch is being formed properly with only the top colour on top and bottom colour on the bottom. It sounds as though the bottom loop is not being picked-up by the hook properly. Make sure you've thoroughly cleaned-out any fluff under the stitch-plate and remove the hook/shuttle and give the hook race a good clean and give it a single drop of oil, even if you've got the lightweight part-plastic hook/shuttle fitted.

I have a Bernina Virtuosa 153 sewing machine that is skipping stitches while trying to shorten a pair of jeans. I changed the needle to a 100/16 and am using all purpose thread.

You may need to increase the foot pressure to cope with the heavy denim material. Look carefully at the material as the machine tries to stitch ... if the foot is not keeping the material firmly on the stitch plate, it might be riding up on the needle (denim tends to be rather 'grippy') which will prevent the thread loop being formed correctly below the stitch-plate and therefore not getting picked-up by the CB hook. Changing to a bigger diameter needle might actually make the situation worse in this case ... go back to an 80 and try again.

Stitching too tight on top

I found a screw on the bobbin case (where you put the cotton for the underside stitching) which was very loose. I tightened it and that created more tension for the bottom thread which solved the problem.

Thread tension problem when sewing on heavy fabrics

Sometimes when I need to use heavy thread for top stitching to reinforce a seam that has come undone, I will use the heavy thread on the top and regular thread on the bottom. I haven't tried it the other way around for hemming but I would think it would work. I do not currently have a Bernina.
