Bought a new sony sd/sdhc memory card 8gb and it will not format/load for my camera--what do I need to do?

The problem is that your camera is only compatible with SD cards, not SDHC cards. You bought a larger card for your older camera, not noticing that it was SDHC (or not knowing that it mattered). The new card doesn't work, not because it or the camera is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD.
Cards of 4Gb are generally SDHC.
Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC.

(There are exceptions. Sometimes, manufacturers make 4Gb SDHC cards but some have errors; they disable half of the chip and sell it as 2Gb, but it's still SDHC. 4Gb cards are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper, but 4Gb SD cards do exist. They are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it. I don't recommend looking for one, because of the problems.)

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it.

Just loaded a sdhc card and received this message : memory card requires formatting. What do we do?

You'll need to access the camera's menu to locate the format option / command. Make sure that your camera supports SDHC cards. Some older cameras support only the original SD cards. SD cards look identical to SDHC counterparts, but an SD card have capacities that don't exceed 2GB. SDHC (the "HC" part stands for High Capacity") on the other hand are generally 4GB and greater in capacity.

If you are unable to format the card or receive other warning messages, you should make sure the card and card capacity is supported by your particular camera.

Good luck!

R4 ,When switching on ,SD error shows then

This sounds like a problem with the MicroSD card in the R4. Some brands have been known to be incompatible. Without knowing more information about the R4 and the SD card

A couple of years ago, I had three microSD cards fail, even reformatting failed. I believe it was a problem with the R4's at the time. Try reformatting the microSD card in a PC, download the latest kernel and load that on to the microSD card, if you can get it to format.

Failing that, buy a new SD card. SanDisk/Transcend and Kingston are the preferred and recommended types. Is this an R4 or R4-SDHC? Don't use an SDHC(4gb+) memory card in a R4, only in R4-SDHC.

Memory cards are cheap enough 1gb-2gb don't cost that much, if you have an R4-SDHC then try a 4gb

I take it it was working at some point or other, or is this a new card?

STUCK ON LOADING SCREEN - HELP!!! Bought a 2 x R4 SDHC card + Kingston 8gb sdhc. Have tried so many firmwares including the latest from r4sdhc.com (which is on R4 box that I got) and still stuck on loading...

How did you go solving the problem. I had a similar problem when a friend of mine gave me a cdrom version of the software that fixed the problem up straight away. The only problem is it is about 80meg in size. If you know a way of me sending it to you I am more than happy to do so.

You will need to get the kernel from the R4 SDHC website, because it is actually a fake card, that R4 do not want people using.

Can't access SDHC card with Rockband 2

Unfortunately, Rock Band 2 came out before the Wii upgrade that allows the use of SDHC cards. Due to the architecture of the Wii which doesn't allow software patches to games, the Rock Band 2 game uses the old drivers that can only read non-SDHC cards.
Unless Harmonix releases a new DVD with the new drivers programmed in, we're out of luck on using SDHC cards with RB2.
