I have old Boston BA735 digital speakers that I am trying to get to work with a new HP PC. Do I need drivers? There are 6 places to plug in speaker cables on the back of the PC. Which ones do I use?

Many of the new sound cards and especially sound cards on OEM do not support digital speakers without buying additional connectors. (Not sure why. I have these same great speakers for years and they are wonderful.
- Check if your sound card ha an SPDIF connection option. - Check the speakers in the device manager to see if you can toggle the "digital" option. - I also have read that some versions of the BA 735 have an analog option on the back of the subwoofer if you need to bypass digital. (mine don't, so I don't know if this is accurate)

Had a old Gateway computer with Boston Digital BA735 speakers using XP. Upgrade computer to a N68PV-GS motherboard and have analog output for the speakers. How to I get the old speakers to work?

You can't, at least not with the integrated sound. The speakers only take digital input, and the Gateway had a digital sound card installed. That new board of yours has PCI slots available. You might be able to use the old Gateway sound card. I've never tried it, but XP might recognize the card and have native drivers. If not, you might be able to find XP drivers at Gateway's site. Otherwise all you'll be able to do is buy a new set of analog speakers.

When I upgraded to a new computer, I went from Windows XP to Windows Vista 64. Now my Boston Digital BA735 speakers do not work. Any suggestions ?

You should have checked with Boston before you upgraded. If you can't find drivers with Google, then they don't exist.

And FWIW, Vista sucks, that was a bad choice.

They say they push digital, but I dont think its what your speakers neet. They require DIGITAL-OUT on the sound card.

Boston BA735 Digital Speakers Dont Work on new Dell computer

You can try to install the sound card--Vista should pick it up, but you'll still probably have to have a driver disk for it.

Make sure that you not only power it down, but you unplug the power cord and press the on button to discharge any stored charge.

When you insert the card, be sure that you'v touched off on either the powersupply or the frame to the hand that has the card in it. Then insert the card. (A static electricity spark can be 20k volts, low amps, but it can destroy both the card and the motherboard if you aren't careful.)

The XP driver might be a problem, but check for the numbers on the card before putting it in and do a search. You may find some additional Vista drivers.

There are a couple of after-market cards that use a digital out, you just have to look for the right connector.

Boston Acoustic BA735 digital CD quality 16 bit/44.1khz speakers

Assuming you are using digital BA735.

Dell laptops come with a proprietery s-video dongle. It gives you a digital output which can go into the BA735 speakers.

I use one set of BA735 with two computers. Computer A sends digital out and Computer B sends analog. BA735 plays both. I listen to music using digital while the analog from the other computer alerts me to the incoming messages in Pidgin.

I did have to change bios settings on one computer to use the on-board audio.

To enable digital output in XP, click on the speaker icon > Advanced > Select Enable SPDIF. You can leave the PC Spk Mute unchecked if you want the analog output as well. That's all.

I hope you are able to enjoy the rich sound of BA735. It's beautiful. My ears thank a lot for replacing those desktop speakers. BA735 hardly takes up any space . Two small speakers are perched on the hutch and the bass module is somewhere behind the desk, completely invisible.

Getting Boston Acoustic ba735 to work with my Dell

Hi Tom,

I just got the dell vostro 410 and had the same problem... So I unpluged the digital cable, got a 1/8 male to 1/8 male cord, plugged it into the analog in on the back of ba735 and the other end into my headphone jack on the front of my system and the speakers work great again......... I have XP Prof. installed as os. Hope this helps... by the way 1/8 is the plug that is on the opposite end of your ba735 digital cable that plugs into your computer, just need a cable with that plug on both ends...
