Retracted USB charging connection

After difficulty charging my dimage x1, I examined the connections between the camera and the cradle. The 'USB' conector appears to be 'pushed' up inside the camera as opposed to my other dimage x1 which the connector is flush with the external portion of the camera. It doesn't appear to be making connection to the cradle as a result.

Initializing USB connection is on lcd screen, computer does not recogize device. If I hold the connection from cable to computer I can sometimes get the "download images", then try to download...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Battery doesn't hold a charge

Hello krad,

I have seen this issue in quite a lot of cameras and the battery or charger are not the issue here. A software update will fix this issue 9 out of 10 times. Connect your camera to the PC and then run this exe file

Camera will power-up only when connected to DC

This from Sony website:

To ensure the proper operation of the battery, please do as follows after charging the battery.
(1) When charging by connecting the AC adaptor directly to the camera Pleasedisconnect DC IN from the camera after charging is completed. Also, itis recommended to remove the battery from the camera when charging iscompleted as the battery is discharged slightly even if the camera isturned off.
(2) When charging with the supplied USB cradle Ifthe camera is installed in the USB cradle, please leave the power cordconnected to the outlet (when using the power strip, please leave itsswitch to on).If you want to unplug the power cord (or switch off thepower strip) after the battery has been charged using the USB cradle, please remove the camera from the USB cradle. Also, it is recommendedto remove the battery from the camera when charging is completed as thebattery is discharged slightly even if the camera is turned off.
NOTE: When you charge the battery by connecting the AC adaptor directly tothe camera or using the USB cradle, do not leave it with the power corddisconnected from the outlet.

Should it not work, continue with the manual reset procedure below:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.
  3. Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.
  4. Reinsert the battery.
  5. Turn on the camera.
NOTE: If the issue is not resolved by performing a reset procedure, service may be required .

My Dimage X1 is stuck open

Hi, you may have tried this already, but if you haven't, it worked for me. I was just checking out your posting as I have been having what sounds like the exact same problem as you: shutter remains open, can't do anything with the camera when it is not on the craddle and when it is on the craddle, the only thing I can do is flip through pictures I have taken previously. I was about to report the same problem as you, then decided to take out the battery, clean it a bit, put it back and now it is working again! For me it stopped working after having used it in humid conditions, so maybe it was a condensation problem... give it try if you haven't.

Konica minolta dimage x1

Of course this problem can be fixed but only temporarily..This is the main problem with LCD screen displays.Either you replace the screen and use it for the time being or sell it off before the liquid leaks out completely.

Can I use a USB cable supplied by a third-party to connect the camera to my computer?

No, Minolta cannot guarantee compatibility of the DiMAGE 7 with a third party USB cable. The USB-1000 Cable supplied with the camera should be used exclusively.
