IF the harddrive is still functional you can get a kit which basically converts your old hard drive to an external USB drive and then you can just move the data over as needed. One such device is here: http://www.cooldrives.com/saandidehadr1.html if you search Google you can find others.

If the drive is fried it is less likely you can retrieve the data but it is a possibility that one of the data retrieval companies can do it. It isn't cheap however. For info on that Google "Data retrieval services". If you are lucky there may be one near you otherwise you'll have to ship the drive.

Can data be retrieved from a power fried drive?

yes, the data can be recovered from the smoked hard disk drive. But only professional data recovery experts can do this for you. If the data is important that see data recovery expert. Hdd is prone to mechanical or logical failures, it always recommended that you take data backup regularly.

I have a broken Toshiba laptop, [the battery died]..and I have photos stored on it..is it possible to retrieve the photos?.. I also have a new Toshiba laptop...please help??

I don't think you lose data because battery is dead. Data is on your HD. Why don't you connect it to power supply and see if the old laptop is really working.

I want to retrieve data from an old 50-pin hd from my old mac. Anybody got a solution?

There are two ways of retrieving data from a SCSI hard drive.
1. Connect the SCSI hard drive to a different SCSI connector on the same data cable, make sure this hard drive has a different SCSI ID from the first hard drive or other SCSI devices in your system. When you boot up your MAC you should see the second SCSI hard drive, You can then copy off your data or remove the redundant files and keep the old hard drive in your system as a 2nd hard drive.
2. Connect the old SCSI hard drive to a SCSI USB hard drive adapter. Then connect it to the USB port on the MAC and you should see this as an external hard drive.

Old ps3 wont turn on, want to retrieve game saves for new ps3

You have the yellow light of death (YLOD). You won't be able to turn on your old ps3 until you get it repaired. OR you CAN put your old hard drive in the new system then do the backup option from the system menu. It will have you upload the data to an external usb drive or Ipod or flash memory drive. Then put your new hard drive back in and do the system recovery option. Hope that helps.

I have a Lacie external HD 500G which we installed approx. one year ago. It was working great . However recently the mother board in our computer failed and was replaced with a new m-board. Essentially we...

Kevin, Yes you will loose al data if you format it.DO NOT FORMAT as you have your data on it. What I suggest is to get the motherboard of same old model that you replaced. Sometimes the motherboards do not play up with all the hardware. Get the same model motherboard that you replaced. Once that works, copy all data to some other HDD. Or better still send the data in bits by email to yourself. The data would be safe on the email server. And can be retrieved later when all is well. OR attach the drive to some other computer where it works and send emails to yourself. Long and tedious job, but will save your data. And when the drive has started working with your new computer after formatting or otherwise, you can retrieve all the data. and delete the emails from the server.

Alternatively you could try getting an external casing by putting the hard drive in there and try accessing the info from there.

No boot device available - strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility after getting the blue screen of death

Your PC is telling you that it cannot recognize your Hard Drive. You need to order a new Hard Drive. They are very cheap. Then you will need to re-install Windows. All of your data may be lost, but you can bring your Hard Drive to a data recovery center or PC Store to see if the data can be retrieved.

Hard Drive is probably dead so you will need to purchase a new one.

Sorry and Good Luck.

Mylacie drive is no longer connected to my computer. When it is turned on, there is a clicking noise and the LED light is alternating between red and yellow. What do you think the problem is?

when a disk makes a clicking noise, in most cases (99%) that means that the disk has crashed. i'm sorry to inform you that the data you had on the disk is lost, unless you are prepared to pay lots of money to a company that takes the disk apart to retrieve data manually.

Hard drive crash

if your HD cannot be detected anymore..then there would be 90% chance that your data's cannot be retrieve. however, if it is still functional as a secondary drive but the partition is damage..try using FileScanvenger to retrieve the data.
