Dell XPS-410 has many problems barley functions, am using second hard drive, first lock so often it just locked totally closed. Many of non windows MCE 32 bit programs fail to work or partial work only in computer. Seems computer name changes I made to XP Media Edition 32 bit when system first bought in 2007 as " original warrantied Dell XPS-410 refurbished desktop" caused original hard drive to lock totally closed. Second hard drive was loaded with same windows XP Media Edition program from Dell and Windows MCE recovery discs. However, problems between Evga GTS 450 upgraded video card and Samsung Monitor with auto tune system caused blue screen on second Hard drive also. I was given another new computer name automatically by windows so system is split in two. Since then system is about 50 % functional. My hope is to save what I can in new remote hard drive that is not from Microsoft or any part of this Windows XP program. Then install another totally new hard drive and OEM Windows 7 64 bit system in Dell case. Computer has power supply, CPU, 2nd DVD/burner player, all are upgraded but older areas of system are now not available to reload, with DVD or not, and also are not functioning or only parts are. I also need sound card to replace complicated "software only" sound blaster audigy MB system. Basically wish to take advantage of ability to run 64 bit OP on Mother Board as built. This system was made so could run 32 OP or 64 bit OP when built in late06 early 2007. I wish to transfer and save Firefox search engine, Thunderbird e mail that runs from Google plus system, video games as can, and as much of both DVD burner reader writers photos and other information installed in non Windows XP areas currently working systems to remote hard drive unit. Then install new MT hard drive in case. Buy and Install fresh Windows 7 64 bit system and add PCI-E sound card to MB. Then re-install Mozilla Firefox system intact and all working systems from remote hard drive to 64 bit internal hard drive and hope to keep internet, some photos or basically as much as can from system now in computer saved on 3rd new hard drive but on fresh Windows 7 64 bit OP. Besides older 32 bit systems that are obsolete and not working correctly, could Evga use GTS-450 1024mb DDR5 memory and Nvidia control, Pentium 775 pin Q-6600 CPU, and Samsung Sync-Master 205BW monitor, use PCE-I type sound card. would I be able to reload Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird internet running direct from G mail address will be usable if saved to remote HD then reloaded to new Hard Drive. I am also willing to buy bit faster ram for stock XPS-410 MB? So simply put buy new remote Hard Drive. Back up / save all I can of non Microsoft 32 bit system now used that works well to remote Hard Drive. Install new Hard Drive in original Dell XPS-410 Mother Board and case, install new OEM Windows 7 64 bit OP and then reload what is now working on Windows XP Media Edition 2005 rollup 2 + SP3 system know back from remote Hard drive onto new hard drive in Dell cae with 64 Bit windows 7 without having any of old Windows XP Media Edition 32 bit system added to new hard drive as would contaminate entire new hard drive again instead of just not load. Thanks ,hope you can follow what I wish to try to do. computer will be nicer than new system for money spent and will have entire e mail address list and e mails that are this machine transferred to new clean HD and sound on sound card not software on CD only. If this plan can not work please explain. sincerely, Wes [email protected]

you need the video and audio driver disc that came with the pc also
SOURCE: COMPUTER CRASHED?
See if you can get to safe mode. Write back to see if you can, and we will give you instructions on how to proceed from there.
Otherwise you will need a restore or winxp OS installation disk.

If you have the oprating system disk with you thats the most convenient way to install the OS. Else the only option left for you is to contact dell and then order a new OEM disk which costs only $10 - 11 which is very less as compared to the price of a new OS
SOURCE: My windows media center 2005, can't install media?
if you have the OS installed then that tells me you need the sound card drivers. Go to this page:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=2684&l=en&s=pub&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Choose your operating system, then go underneath where it says audio and choose the one that says driver.
Download it and then install it and you should have sound then.

Unfortunately because your windows are OEM version you can not try the other solution.
The only solution is to backup your files and install the windows from the begging or find a windows disk so we can repair it or upgrade them.
