Replace my citreon c4 head unit

I have just changed my car. I now have a brand new Citreon C4, model 92 Cool. The head unit which was installed is a Blaupunkt RD4 N1-02.
Although the sound was not too bad, it was nowhere near as good as the Alpine CD/Receiver I had in my previous car. I removed the Alpine before I part exchanged the car.
I made enquires with Dalco Car Audio Ltd in Lowestoft about improving the sound in the Citreon, thinking I would have to maybe get better speakers. I told them I had removed the Alpine they had fitted in my previous car and they said that replacing the Citreon head unit with my Alpine one would certainly in itself improve the sound quality. They said they would be able to swap the head units ok and if I was happy with the sound, there would be no need to spend more money on different speakers.
They did the change and the sound was loads better but as I was driving home I realised the digital speedometer reading had reverted to KPH instead of MPH and any wording on the other digital information panels was in French instead of English.
I rang them when I got home and explained the problem and I don't think they realised just what could be altered with the controls on the right hand side of the Blaupunkt unit. I also made enquires with the Citreon dealer, Desira in Great Yarmouth, I bought the car from and their fitter said that it was probably not posible to use another head unit but I could book it in and they would investigate the problem.
When I told the guy at Dalco what the Desira fitter had said, he said that was rubish and he was sure they could find some sort of interface unit or something like it that would allow it to work more or less as the original head unit with the correct digital readouts for this country.
At the moment, the Alpine has to be switched on before I move off to power the digital speedometer also the rear screen heater does not work if the Alpine is off.
I am hoping that Dalco are right and they can sort the problem but I thought I would also try to find a solution too which is why I started browsing with Google and found you guys.
Please could you shed any more light on this problem because I really would like to keep the Alpine unit.
Hoping you can help me and thank you in advance.
Kindest regards
Norman Sutcliffe

you asked at the start of your reply, what is the year of my car. I said at the start of my query that it is brand new, April 07

I looked up Alpine specs for you. I found the following statement from Alpine:

*********************************************
Vehicle displays present the same upgrade problems as steering remote controls, and again, Alpine has interface solutions. Most of the Alpine Head Units and Mobil Media Stations are compatible with the vehicle displays in the dashboards of Citroen, Mercedes, Benz, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, and other vehicles. Using the interface, the vehicle display will show the radio station name and frequency, the CD track, iPod information, the volume level and other information. This year, Alpine introduces a new protocol for the vehicle display output.
*******
Vehicle Display Interface RedShows advanced information on the vehicle’s external display (2007 models only: iDA-X001, CDA-9887R, CDA-9885R, CDA-9883R, IVA-W202R).
********
Vehicle Display Interface BlueShows basic information on the vehicle’s external display. (2006 models: CDA-9857R, CDA-9856R, CDA-9855R, CDA-9854R, CDA-9853R, CDA-9851R, CDA-9847R, IVA-D310R/RB).

********************************************
After reading through their website want I interpret the "faceplate head" you have (9847) is for 2006 model cars as it shows listed. What you need is one of the newer "faceplate Heads" as listed. But you also need to make sure the new "head" is compatible with the older changer, amps, and speakers. Which I think you already have that answer.

What I think Bigg T was trying to you is what Alpine already knows and is saying too. Each car model has specific electronic connections through the dash. Alpine takes all that in consideration so you get a product that works with your model car. Delco is probably going to tell you that you need to get a newer version "head" so you will get the advanced information and your problem is solved. The guys where you bought your car are only trying to stay within their contractual agreements with respect to Citreon.

I hope this answers your question.

What does ERG mean on a citreon c4 coupe 1.6 diesel.

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. It takes a bit of the exhaust gas and runs it back through the intake. This helps clean up emissions.
Rough idle and loss of power are symptoms of a stuck EGR valve. The valves aren't too expensive, but labor varies depending on the model of car.
