Clicking on desktop icon opens and immediatly closes

Hi

I downloaded IE8, after downlading the toolbar (file, edit etc) was not there. I then restored my computed to before the IE8 download thinking it would go back to normal, however now when i click on my desktop IE logo it goes to open but immediatly closes again!

I know my internet is working as I can log onto MSN messenger and also I can open the internet through MSN Explorer. I tried downloading IE8 through my MSN Explorer, however when it brings up the download box its blank.

I cant get any further! - I tried to restore back to after I downloaded IE8 but my computer said i need more memory - so i ran disk clean up, when I went back to resotre - there was no previous restore points there any longer!

Is there anything I can do?? - Can I download IE onto a disk on another computer and upload??

HELP!! - its my brothers computer, hes away on holiday and back on friday - I need to fix it before then!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi thanks for your help

But i cant resolve the problem - I checked and although I downloaded IE8, im actually still using IE7, the files for IE8 are installed on my C drive still. - I tried removing IE7 from add or remove programs area, however the remove option was not there, so i uninstalled Service pack 3, then it allowed me to remove IE7. After I removed IE7, I had no internet connection at all, (I thought it may have reverted to IE6 as default). I have restored my computer to undo my IE7 Removal so that I can access via MSN explorer, temporarily.

Can you advise what I should do next? I tried downloading IE8 again, but the download page opens blank.

    Thanks again for your help!!

Hi,

Its not a big problem dear ,you can uninstall the ie8 from add or remove programmes in control panel.
Goto control panel ,open add or remove programmes, find out the ie8 ,select and remove it from there. If you unable to find the ie 8 in the list or if therewill be no remove option there then tru wo remove windows service pack3 from the same list.

Best of luck

Please reply if the problem will be solved.
I will be waiting for your reply and votes.

I deleted the recycle icon by accident i would like to get it back please?

Assuming you didn’t turn off all your desktop icons (right-click your desktop, choose View from the menu, and choose Show Desktop Icons if it doesn’t have a check next to it, which will turn them back on), it’s easy to get back, so stop your sweating and follow these simple steps.
  1. Right-click on your desktop and choose Personalize
    delrb1.jpg
  2. Click on the Change Desktop Icons link in the upper left hand corner
    delrb2.jpg
  3. In the Desktop Icons Settings window, check the Recycle Bin box and click OK
    delrb7.jpg
WORKAROUND in case the above does not work loadTOCNode(1, 'workaround'); If you cannot restore the Recycle Bin by using the resolutions that are listed in this article, work around this issue by creating a shortcut to the Recycle Bin: 1. Click Start, and then click My Computer. 2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. 3. Click the View tab, and then click to clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. 4. Click Yes when the warning message appears, and then click OK to close the Folder Options dialog box. 5. Click Folders on the toolbar.

Note If Folders is not visible on the toolbar, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Standard Buttons. 6. In the left pane, under Folders, locate the Recycle Bin folder, and then drag the Recycle Bin folder to the desktop. 7. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options. 8. Click the View tab, and then click to select the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. Click OK.Note This procedure does not re-create the original icon. However, this procedure restores most of the features of the Recycle Bin, including the following: • Delete a file by dragging it to the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop. • Retrieve a file that you deleted by double-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, right-clicking the file that you want to retrieve, and then clicking Restore. • Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin. When you use these step to work around the problem, you cannot right-click the Recycle Bin shortcut to access the Recycle Bin Properties. To set properties for the Recycle Bin, follow these steps: 1. Double-click the Recycle Bin shortcut on the Desktop. The Recycle Bin folder opens. 2. In the upper left corner of the Recycle Bin folder, right-click the Recycle Bin icon, and then click Properties.
