Bt 7610 how do I increase the rings before the answer machine starts

Depending on your answer machine the number of rings is programmable.. check the instructions.

I give below the step by step procedure for changing the number of rings the phone will sound.
1. Select Menu, Answer Phone is displayed, press
Select.
2. Press until Settings is displayed, press Select.
3. Press to highlight either Ans. & record or
Answer only and press Select.
4. Answer delay is displayed, use or to display
the number of rings you want (0-9 rings or Time
saver) and select Save. Saved will be displayed.
Be aware though that the number of rings needs to be less than your ansaphone service, for BT 1571 this is 5 rings, although more may be possible if you can get BT to change their 1571 for your line.

The KX-TG5621 isn't an answering machine. It will ring until you answer, some answering machine picks up, or the caller hangs up.

The instructions say you change them using the answer phone menu in the base - you need to scroll to 'answer delay' and you can increase the rings to a maximum of 8

Step 1: Determine the make and model of your phone/answering machine.
Step 2: Repost your question, being sure to include the information from Step 1.

the default setting is 5 rings. if you need to change that:
set the ring to answer to higher number, however, that will put the machine in manual answering of fax.
the better setting is to rest the phone or the answer machine to a lower number of rings.

Depending on the model and make of your machine, there should be an option under the fax settings of the setup menu that will allow you to either increase the number of rings before auto answer (I suggest that you increase it to at least 5 rings to give you time to answer) or that whilst you are available change the answer setting to phone. This will mean that you have to answer all calls but if there is an incoming fax (you will hear the high pitched beeeping sound) before you place the phone back on the hook press the start button.
This should solve your dilema.

Hold down the forward skip button on the answer machine, it will say 3, if you have it set to 3 rings, just press the forward skip button again to the required number of rings, 10 being the max. Thats it job done.
