The model would have helped. Generally horizontal lines in the picture come from a defective panel and the set isn't fixable, you could try replacing the t-con board but chances of fixing it are slim

That's a problem. If it's still in warranty you're in luck. Either take it back to the store, or call Sony to have it repaired under warranty. If it's out of warranty they can send a third party servicer to your home to the tune of $400 labor (in 2008) plus parts in the US. I will say this much, if it turns out to be an LCD panel issue, the panel will cost about the same as the TV itself when it was new.

The issue you describe sounds like the scan frequency isn't right for the video you are watching. In other words, it should be 720P and it is running at 1080P instead, and you wind up with a horizontal fold-over type of line.

That makes that new OLED TV a little more enticing!

This is normally only one of two things : Cable or Mainboard

The W5000 is quite a new Projector and should still be under warranty.

But try changing the cabling first and if the problem still persists , let BenQ replace the Mainboard.

Horizontal lines are either caused by the main logic board, a dammaged screen or by the main x and y drivers. Hard to determine which one it is, but somthing is getting hot which is causing the problem. My guess is the main logic board.
