I had a similar problem with my cub Cadet. It turned out that the Ignition Module on the engine was cracked. Motor started OK - but died as soon as a load (such as engaging the mower) was put on it.

These are not terribly hard to check, and/or change, yourself. Easy to get to once the motor shroud is removed.

My 25 HP Kohler engine has 2 modules. EXPENSIVE from the dealer - found MUCH better prices online.

I would take it to a couple of places to get ideas what the problem is and if two or three tell you the same thing then get prices as well. Go from there.

Well I do now know if you want a riding mower and how much yard you are mowing. If you are mowing 1 acre or more and the land is fairly level I would recommend a Dixon or Bad Boy ZTR mower. The Bad Boy sells for $4,999 at Tractor Supply and is a well built heavy duty mower. The Dixon will be slightly cheaper and it also a quality mower. The Cub Cadet & Husqvarna are cheaply built mowers that sell for less but are not dependable. You get what you pay for. If you are looking for a push mower then the Cub Cadet is a decent mower for the price and the Honda is a top notch quality mower that sells for much more.

Could be couple of things...blockage in fuel filter....tank cap has blocked bleed hole pressurising fuel tank....magneto either coil or condensor on way out

You have to have something rubbing under there that isn't supposed to be, crawl under the tractor and watch the belt go around by hand, if you can turn it. Maybe see what is frozen up, in the wrong place, Gotta be a belt guide is rubbing or a pulley is not spinning. The PTO should last 20 years, all i can think is they got it too tight to start, .010" min, that is tight, and you must be in Florida picking up a lot of sand? If it was under any kind of warranty, I would raise a big stink about it. Those PTO's are not cheap. And the belt has got to be $20. I wouldn't go to a dealer for the belt, unless it is really special, just match it up at the auto parts store, for half the price of dealer. Hope this helps.
