Pull cord won't engage

Cord on blower won't pull. Removed cord cover, and pulled rope. It pulls, then retracts ok. But what I believe is the "Flywheel" won't turn. It will move slightly to left or right, but no more than that. HELP!! I still have leaves from the fall that need to be cleaned up before I can mow!!

Think I solved it- I oiled up the piston and put more gas/oil mix in and forced a few pulls until it turned over- My guess is that I ran out of gas and ran on fumes for a second which burned away my remaining lube in the piston. It didn't fully seize but it jammed up a little and the new gas and oil freed it up.

Remove the sparkplug and try to turn the flywheel if it turns freely then the engine is most likely ok. if it does not turn you have a locked engine that means its toast. If it does turn then you have to look closely at th pull recoil that it is engaging the flywheel.

SOURCE: weed eater is locked up. can not pull cord at all.

Try taking the cover off around the pull if you can. Likely the cord is not free to spin, or there is a rub on the fly wheel stopping it from moving.

SOURCE: I have a Echo PB 2601 made a loud bang then stoped working.

Sounds like it has seized up. If the pull cord won't pull then the motor is locked up. Did you run gas/oil mix for the fuel its a 2 cycle motor...

SOURCE: pull cord or motor frozen

Unfortunately, your Echo blower gets all of its lubrication from the oil mix in the gas.
To inspect the damage, remove the muffler and look inside the cylinder with a flashlight. If you can see scrathes or scoring along the sides of the piston or cylinder walls, then there are only 2 options. Repair or replace.

The repair would involve replacing the piston and cylinder (parts are $150) If you can do the labor, that would save probably $100.

To replace, I found several on ebay and other online sites for less than $300 plus shipping.

Good luck.

Pull cord binding when mounted on engine but not when removed from engine

When you assemble the Recoil Starter, push it down onto the blower easily and then pull the cord slowly. It should drop into position as you slowly pull the cord.

Why will the Pull cord not retract?

I am not sure what your pull rope is on..but most are wound in a spring loaded housing on top of the motor.it may be bound up and not allowing the spring to rewind the rope..if you are mechanically inclined..you can get at the housing by removing the cover where the rope goes in..and do some adjusting..or If broken the complete winding device can be replaced and the cover replaced..good luck

Oil leak on poulan snow lower

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  • Remove the hex bolts holding the plastic leaf blower housing in place with your hex wrench. You may wish to cut the cord with your scissors and loosen the bolt or screw securing the rope assembly with your hex wrench or screwdriver.
  • 2 Remove the spring assembly carefully. Do not remove the spring, only remove the assembly.
  • 3 Remove the old cord from the leaf blower pull cord assembly by gently pulling it away from the assembly with your hands. Notice the direction the pull cord is wound, as this becomes important in the next step.
  • 4 Wind the new pull cord in the same direction you removed it in Step 3. Make sure the inner end of the pull cord secures in the faster or slot provided on the pull cord assembly. This varies depending on the leaf blower manufacturer.
  • 5 Replace the pull cord pulley and place over the spring. This is the white plastic spool.
  • 6 Rotate the pull cord assembly two or three times in the same direction the cord pulls wearing safety goggles and work gloves. Reinsert the center screw by screwing it in place with your screwdriver; this holds the pulley assembly together
  • 7 Insert the leaf blowers cord end into the end of the handle opening. Secure the handle by tying a knot at the bottom of the new pull cord; this prevents the handle from being pulled off the pull cord while you start the leaf blower.
  • 8 Place the pull cord assembly back onto your leaf blower in its designated area and secure by refastening the four hex nuts with your hex wrench.
  • 9 Replace the housing cover of the leaf blower and refasten the hex nuts with your hex wrench. You removed the housing cover in Step 1.

Sounds like the starter dogs are broken. They are little plastic teeth that engage to turn the engine when you pull the cord. You'll need to replace the whole starter assembly to fix this.

You have to find a way to push the starter. It normally gets all stuck due to grease. One push with a screwdriver on the actual starter (The thing the rope turns) should wind the whole cord up. If not, clean it. Alot of oil/chunky-ness gets trapt when your using it.

remove the top cover. look inside while pulling rope briskly, you should see two dogs fly out and retract when the cord reaches its end. if not, check for dirt in the system and clean out. if no dogs, you will have to remove the system from the housing, be careful of the spring. check for any broken drive parts. also check flywheel cup for damage where the dogs come into contact with it.

Pull cord broke on my lawn boy mower, new cord won't retract??

I don't know exactly what you have there, but starters in general work pretty much the same. What you have to do with any starter when you replace the rope is to first wind up the spring with the pulley. Turn the pulley in the direction it would be turning if you were pulling the rope. When it's wound tight, back off to align the rope hole in the cover and the pulley. Stick the rope from the outside through the cover and pulley and tie a knot. Then let the spring tension pull the rope into the starter. Hope that helps. Dwain

The starter pull cord has pulled off.

EASY,REMOVE TOP COVER OF ENGINE THAT HOUSES ROPE ASSY. LOOK UNDERNEATH PLASTIC PIECE,CUT THE KNOT OFF THAT COMES THROUGH HOLE AND PULL AND EXISTANT ROPE OUT. OK, GET NEW ROPE AND HANDLE TOGETHER,THE END THAT IS OPPOSITE FROM NEW PULL STRING HANDLE YOU ARE GOING TO USE. CAREFULLY WIND UP ROPE HOUSING NICE AND FIRM JUST BY WINDING IT UP WITH HAND IN AS IT SITS IN TOP COVER. WHEN YOU THINK IT HAS ENOUGH TO PULL ROPE IN FEED END OF ROPE IN HOLE AND IN CHANNEL OF ROPE HOUSING,THERE IS A SMALL HOLE TO LINE IT UP WITH,WHEN SEE THE ROPE END FEED IT THROUGH THAT HOLE NOW. MAKE TAKE ANOTHER SET OF HANDS OR A WEDGE TO STOP RETRACTING OF SPRING. PULL ROPE THROUGH AND TIE A DOUBLE KNOT AT END SO IT WONT PULL THROUGH. SLOWLY LET IT PULL ROPE IN,THEN PULL ROPE BY HANDLE FULL LENGTH TO ENSURE ALL KINKS ARE OUT AND IT PULLS BACK IN LIKE IT SHOULD.
