F4 might mean that the bobbin on the top is in the position for rewind, slide bobbin to the right for the error code to go away. Hope this helps, Sandy

The computer will automatically adjust the needle upper position when the machine is switch on, and automatically adjust the needle lower position when you start sewing. Please note that it is a normal phenomenon if you hear a sound coming from the machine (machine adjusting sound) and feel that the sewing is being delayed. It's not dangerous to sew. - When operating correctly: 1 beep - When operating incorrectly: 3-short beeps - When the sewing machine is in trouble and can't sew: 8 seconds short beeps It means that the thread is twisted or jammed and the hand wheel axle can't move. Please look through the "Trouble shooting guide" on page 49 to find the solution. After the problem has been solved, the machine will continue to sew.
Look for thread wrapped up in hand wheel or in hook/race. See following link for machine instructions.
Basic Problem Check: If your machine is not working correctly ALWAYS follow these steps first.
READ YOUR MANUAL!!!
1. Rethread top and botton threads. This can solve a lot of problems
2. Oil your machine per your mauals instructions. (I find I must oil my emboidery machine at the beginning of each project, but my basic machine can go up to 6 months between oiling depending upon use).
3. Clean you machine per manusal's instructions (don't forget to remove the throat plate and blow out aread below needle).
If these steps don't solve your problems you may need to take you machine to the shop and have them reset your machine to factory specs;.
Take it all apart, and clean the machine. Then re-thread, re-thread bobbin, set to normal sewing and try it. Then set to zigzag and try again. Without knowing what machine you have it will be hard to trouble shoot for you
Yes, Brother has a free download, Go to this site:http://www.generalmanual.com/Home-Sewing-Embroidery-Machines/Brother-CS-6000i-Sewing-Machine.htm and you should have what you need. You also might have the bobbin pushed to the right, in the wind position. Is so, push bobbin to the left and all should be fine.
Can't answer your problem, my problem also. But I don't have the auto button, so I am really stuck. Was hoping you got the answer and did not have time to post.
