SOURCE: power save mode

Yes, you arent getting a signal to your monitor from your video card. Try replacing. If its onboard then the Mainboard may be bad. These machines are known by Dell to go bad and is covered under warranty, provided you still have it.

The message you are getting is coming from the monitor, not the P.C.

Its telling you you it went into power save since its not getting a video signal from the P.C. Check connections as well.

If your using any kind of splitter, remove it and connect monitor directly to P.C. to be sure.
Good luck

Smm mode is initializing the thermal probes.

problably the system is running at high temperature because of improper fan speed, so try to clear the nvram if its not working flash the bios if still the issue persists, replace the heatsink assembly and the motherbord.

Dell Optiplex S280. Alert! Chipset heat sink not detected.

There is no S280 in the Optipex model line, just GX 280 and SX 280.
The problem you are describing is common to the GX 280 model.
Here is a link to the manual:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-gx280_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf
Select "Small Form-Factor Computer" and then select "About Your Computer". Scroll down to "System Board Components".
To the right of the processor is a smaller heat-sink attached to the motherboard via a wire similar to the size of a paper clip bent open. That wire is soldered to the motherboard which may have loosened it's connection and the circuit is open. This heat-sink on the chipset of the motherboard. The wire needs to be re-soldered to the motherboard.
