What is a drawbacks of disabling usb power manager i have acer travelmate 290 laptop, and wen ever i use high speed Internet modem it some times shows the message "the usb port has exceeded its ports...

Personally, I would favour the use of a High Speed Powered Hub. It will ensure no damage to the USB Port due to overloads.
Less than a tenner on Ebay is a good price for piece of mind.

1. Unplug the power cable from your high-speed internet modem.
2. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable (included) to the number 1 port on the router.
3. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
4. Connect an Ethernet cable from your high-speed Internet modem into the Internet port on the router.

4 port 2.0 high speed hub for mac - defective??

No its not defective. If you use your usb modem, plug it in to a working port. It is the default or home port of the usb modem since it was installed on your system. If you use other port for it then it will not work.

I have a NETGEAR wire/wireless router MBR624GU. My internet provider is Comcast using a high speed internet modem by Ambit model U10C018. I connected the Comcast modem to Router LAN port using a Ethernet...

If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If that works then the modem is working.
Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router.
You can set up the router without the CD also.
It is very easy.

When I plug a wireless cable into a USB port, the computer tells me that there are High speed USB ports available but does not inform where to find them.

Right-Click on My Computer, Properties, Device Manager, then Click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers, u will see the USB port available on your computer there. Also, at the same time you are doing this, try checking all the USB ports on your computer...most times, the HIGH-Speed USB Ports (USB 2.0) are always seperated from the other USB ports...so try the USB port seperated from others.
In your own case, Acer TravelMate 2303LCi has just 3 USB slots, a PC card slot, modem and network slot. No floppy drive, no TV-out, no IR, no Wi-Fi. So check-out USB Ports, the USB port infront of the Laptop beside the Audio Port and and the Speaker, on the extreme-right is your USB 2.0 High-Speed Port.

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection

  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"
  3. Connect the Router Internet (WAN) port to Modem (you need a LAN MODEM = a modem with a LAN/ETHERNET port)
  4. Be sure your internet is running before strting ROUTER configuration with Router Company CD
