Best thing to try, take out the dvd drive completely from the laptop. Then go ahead and reseat the drive back into its slot and put the screw back into place. Do all of this while the laptop is turned off.

Now go ahead and turn the laptop back on and go into the bios. Once in there it should show you the dvd drive, if it does show it to you then reboot into windows and then the drive should show up into my computer and you should be able to play dvd and cd's again.

If your drive doesn't show up in the BIOS then reset defaults and then reboot the laptop back into windows. If it still doesn't show up in there then you have a bad dvd drive.

Put the "System Restore" disk into the drive,
and restart your computer.
Choose to "change boot order" so that the first boot-device is your CD/DVD unit.
Your computer *WILL* boot from the disk in the drive,
allowing you to reinstall Windows.
