Canon 6080-7580 & 9080 are notorious for developing lines on scanned images on either front or rear pages. Verify that the shading units are extending properly & have no black debris by opening the transport fully then depressing the green button on the control panel until the shading plates extend (with power on). Lines are also often due to very light scratches on the reading units glass but can also be caused by dust contaminating the reading unit. For this reason it is strongly recommended to NOT use compressed air around the reading units as it tends to blow dust particles into the reading units. Per Canon, the reading units are not field serviceable but can be disassembled if due care is used when removing the CCD assembly from the back of the unit. Cleaning the CCD array with a soft cloth lightly moistened with alcohol will often be enough to fix lines. If the glass has severe scratches, buffing them out with jewelers rouge may work. There are a few entities that will refurbish these reading units as well.

SOURCE: Canon DR-2050C Scanner gets verticle line down image

I have the same issue with mine and there are 2 image sensors on this scanner. 1 in the back that you will see when you open the front that has a meteal shield covering the top half, and one in the fold out front that faces the inside. These are the "glass" sections everyone is refering to. Problem is, they are plexiglass, not glass and mine has a tiny scratch in the lens that is causing the line. This could be your problem. find the lens and use a LED flashlight to inspect your lens for scratches. If its scratched like mine, the entire module has to be replaced to fix it. The canon part number is MH7-7038 and they range from $125-$160 if you replace it yourself. The one in the front is easy to do, but the back one is a little tricky. Hope this helps. E. How do I rid my copier of horizontal lines?

Clean the narrow glass of your machine with an alcohol dampered cloth. Just be sure the glass is completely clean and lines will disappear

Black lines on faxes or copies

Do you have black lines in your scanned or copied documents? The typical problem is ink, correction fluid or trash blocking the image sensor. Look at the picture below, the image sensor is marked by the gray box. Use a paper towel dampened with window cleaner to clean this glass strip. Do not spray windows cleaner on the glass just the paper towel. Gently scrub the glass to clean off any trash or marks that may be there. Let the glass dry for a few minutes and then try to copy or scan something.f86a7c5.jpg

You should have a clean copy now. If you have any questions you can contact us at: [email protected]

When I fax it copies a black line is on the page. And when I copy from the top part it copies a black line. How can I fix that?

are you getting black lined copies while you are trying to send a fax or black lined images are obtained at the receiving end. Is there any problems while copying from platen glass. if it's ok, then check if there is any thing on the stream reading glass (the small sized glass plate meant for ADF) & clean it.

When making a copy on our Canon copier (super G3; image class MF4150) we are getting a vertical black line down the entire length of the paper. Is there something we can do to fix it? SG

You can fix this yourself by cleaning the scanner glass. When you insert a document to make a copy it is pulled in and travels over a thin strip of glass. When something gets stuck on this glass it is read or scanned as a solid line. What you need to do is make a copy. Then put that copy in the feeder the same way you put the original document in. Now the line on the copy will "line up" with the area of the glass that has something stuck to it. Use this as a guide to pop open the feeder cover, locate the glass and clean it with a cloth dampened with a bit of glass cleaner. Once you have it cleaned just run a copy again and the line should be gone. Sometimes a small flashlight helps to locate the glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I get a line down the middle of sent and received faxes

If the machine is sending images with a line down the middle, then the scann glass is dirty, open the document feeder on the fax machine, you should be able to see the scanner glass, Clean this with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth, Take not of where the line usually is and be sure to pay special attention to this area of the glass, as it may have some error correstion fluid or other debis on the glass. Try making a copy, is should be gone.

Line on far right of scanned documents

Hi,

Most likely the scanner has dirt on the glass that is over the imaging array or the glass may be scrached. If the glass is scratch, the imaging CCD array need to be replaced. If you do not scan the rear of your documents, you can swap the upper with the lower in the case that one is scratched.

The imaging array are the green long bars, one at the bottom of the paper path halfway inside the scanner and the other is above it. Look closely for a small spot of black toner or dirt stuck
on the glass. Take a soft cloth, wet it with water or alcohol if needed and clean the glass.
Pass you finger over the glass, try to feel if all of the toner or rubber residue has been removed.
You might try looking at the specific area were your documents image is getting the line. It will
help you pinpoint where you should clean. CAREFULL not to push on the glass as this
might break it. Hope this helps.

Streaks on prints

Lines/streaks at the same location indicate either a speck of dust stuck on the glass or the glass may be scratched.

Lines when scanned

The common solution on this sight to this problem on any copier seemed to be simply clean the glass. I first cleaned the glass on the bed...no help. Then I lifted the feeder and discovered a portion of the glass under that as well. Once it was cleaned the lines disappeared!

I saved $$ on a useless service call for a simple, easy to fix problem thanks to this site!
