I've had "Record-blocking signals detected" on my LG RH398H-M recorder off & on since I bought it almost a year ago. Also other minor problems. LG replaced the recorder 4 times with no change in problems. I became suspicious when I found that when these messages came on I could switch to any channel, digital or analog, even the weather channel, and I would still get the same message for about 5 minutes & then everything would be OK again. Recently I finally got the chance to try something. When the message came on I disconnected the input to the recorder and the message still came on! Again, I got the message "Record-blocking signal detected" with ABSOLUTELY NO INPUT CONNECTED to the recorder!!! Of course it's impossible for the recorder to be receiving blocking signals when there's nothing connected to the inputs. I wrote to LG again and threatened a law suit but so far they've been ignoring me. I would like to hear from anyone who can duplicate the above.

I have the same problem with the same model LG, bought a year ago. It only gives the 'Record-blocking signals detected' message when there's something I really want to record. Over the winter it was Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. Today it is the British Open Golf from Turnberry. We are out tomorrow, for the last day of play and can't record!!!!! It seems this player has build in blocking signals even to channels we can normally watch. Any help would be appreciated - before tomorrow, July 19th.

The only channel that gives this notice is Speed. Every time and all the time. I had Express Vu satellite when I first purchased the LG and now I have Cogeco cable and both have the same issue. Only the one channel blocks the signal. I've asked the agent who hooked up the cable if he knows anything about it and he has asked around but nothing so far. I'm wondering if it can be fixed with a firmware update but haven't found anything yet. Will post if I find anything.

TV/VCR Recording of TV Programs Using a Digital Converter Box

Hi Rick
I think you are painting yourself into a corner. So to Speak.
Why buy a SetTop Box to convert to an old VHS Tape when you can buy a Digital Recorder for probably the same price.
The modern way to Record video is to use a Hard Disk Drive Recorder rather than a VCR. They have a built in tuner and can record 2 stations at once and have a built in Electronic Program Guide. The EPG info is transmitted with the Digital TV transmission from the broadcaster.
I bought one 2 weeks ago for an old 85yo friend so he could record late night stuff and play back later. He still uses the VCR but only for old VHS Tape playback. It was a TEAC HDR9650TS Digital Video Recorder and I picked it up new for Aus$188.
Here are the unit features
  1. Main Features:
    DVB-T Twin Digital Turners
DVR Recording: Record three channels while watching a 4th from same network Smart Series Record feature to record a whole series at a touch of a button
    2.5" Sata Hard disk: 500GB
Time Shift Function (Pause live TV)
    HDMI Digital Output
    Digital Audio Output
    CVBS/YPbPr/SPDIF connectors
Supports TV formats 4:3 and 16:9
Electronic Program Guide (EPG) up to 7 days in advance
    EPG searching and auto download
    Recorded program edit
    Parental Control
Copy files from internal HDD to external HDD
    Built-in WiFi
    Network Playback
    USB 2.0 Interface

Now
This was my original reply until I saw the light.

So, Hopefully one of these will answer your queerie.

A digital TV picks up the new Digital Transmission and stores it in memory, then supplies the high definition to the input of your TV.
With a STB, once the digital broadcast signal is captured by the Set Top Box tuner, it is stored in memory and then it is converted to Video Format and comes out of the back connectors as a standard video & audio signal on the Red & White (Audio) & Yellow (Video) as a composite signal that can also be attached to an older VCR tape recorder.
If the STB output connectors have a Red White & Yellow RCA plugs then it is all ready to be picked up by an older TV or VCR.
Most set top boxes also have HDMI Output for high definition video & sound in the one cable, which attaches directly to the back of your TV (assuming it doesn't already have a tuner (STB) already built in).
HDMI is the state of the art cabling for modern devices. But probably not on the old VCR.
It will either use Component, Composite or SVideo cables. Match one of these cable standards up with your VCR.

RECORD BLOCKING SIGNALS DETECTED APPEARING ON SCREEN WHENEVER I TRY AND RECORD WITH RH7521W

I assume you are trying to record from a VCR tape to a dvd? It could be the copyright protection causing this issue. A little more information would be a great help. What are you trying to record? VCR Tapes. Are these home movies or are they retail movies. Macrovision prevents recording. If you are trying to record a television show, it could be the digital rights protection. do you have it connected to satellite or cable.

Hi. i have a LG lcd 37" flat screen t.v. In the

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately, your TV does not have any hard-disk recording facilities built in. The reason for the "Record" option in the menu is that some other LG TVs share common hardware and software with your TV. This means they all have the same menu options but on some TVs certain options have no function or are disabled, e.g. the "Record" option on your TV.

If you want to record TV programmes, you will need to buy an external device with hard-disk recording facilities.

Hope this helps.

I am currently converting all of my old videos to dvd,my dvd recorder RH266 will not record some old videos, message "Record signal blocked" comes up, and record switches off. This happens even with some...

The recordings probably have a anti-piracy copy prevention signal imbedded which will block any attempt at copying.

There were several techniques used.
