Onkyo 6 disc DVD player picks up the disc but it won't spin

Its not picking up the type of disc can only use one type your dvd player is not multi zone

The DVD laser pickup is at the end of life, replacement of assembly the only option, cheaper to replace the combo unit.

The someone that told you to try cleaning the lens with a cotton swab (q-tip) was right.
if that doesn't work, check all the cables that go to or are in the pickup assembly.
If all that seems OK, then you very well may need to replace the assembly.

the lazer might not be seeing the disc properly try a disc cleaner which has nylon string on it and they clean the lazer lens

I bought a new one. Thanks anyway.

This woud be due to two things

1. laser
2. servo motor not spinning to the correct speeds i,e Bad motor

The little drive belt that operates the CD lift mechanism is likely busted. I just started looking for belts now.
