The unit can not read the discs. It will search through all 6 positions then quit. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Update this with your results.

Hi there,
That's some nice equipment you have there ;)
There are no codes specific to any model of DVD player, only codes for brands. The codes programmed into your Onkyo RC-690M remote control for Sony DVD are:
DVD players: 0560, 0891, 1097, 1560, 2008, 2047
DVD recorders: 1097
There is an expectation that a programmable remote contains codes for every device, but this is unrealistic. Remotes are programmed with a few hundred codes and there are thousands of devices.
If these codes don't work, you will need to use the IR learning feature of your Onkyo remote control which can "learn" the commands from the remote supplied with your Sony DVD player. This remote has no "code search" feature so the only other option would be to manually enter every code in the list. There are hundreds of these and it would take hours to try entering them all - with no guarantee that one will work.
Code entry instructions:
1 Switch the Sony DVD player on - i.e. not in standby mode
2. While holding the DVD REMOTE MODE key on the Onkyo remote (under Macro 1), press the STANDBY key once, then release the DVD key.
(The indicator light above the Onkyo will illuminate and stay lit.)
3. Enter the first code from the list above (0560) using the numerical keys on the remote.
(If you fail to enter a code within 30 seconds, the indicator light will go out and you will need to start again)
4. Press the DVD REMOTE MODE key again once. The indicator light will go out.
5. Point the remote at the DVD player and test the keys correspond correctly to the functions.
If you are unable to operate the DVD player or the remote keys don't correspond to the correct functions on the DVD player, repeat the code entry from step 2 for the next code in the list. If none of the codes work correctly, program the code that worked best (if any) and then use the IR learning feature to change the function of the buttons that are incorrect.
Try the above codes and if you then need assistance with using the IR learning feature, please let me know.
Hope this helps.
