Has the clutch been disengaged to wind the bobbin? Pulling straight out on the handwheel on some machines will stop the needle from moving so that a bobbin can be attached and wound. If this is the case you simply push it straight back in. Also, on a computerized or electronic machine if the bobbin winding post is pushed right, the clutch will disengage. --Push it all the way left when you are done winding the bobbin to re-engage the clutch. If the problem is internal, like a slipped belt, you will need to have someone open up the machine to repair it. Hope you get it going again!

You only need to replace the cord if it has been damaged. It will cost less if you just take the machine , cord and control to a local technician and have him just replace the foot control. Let him test it first. A generic foot control should cost less than $30.

SOURCE: Singer 258

There is no speed adjust, but 1st you must know the source of the slow down. Remove the belt from the motor pulley and run it, if it goes fast try turning the hand wheel if it is stiff the machine needs clean and oil. If it turns freely you motor may be dirty or just slow. If dirty, sometimes you can without the blet attached run it at full speed for 10 to 15 minutes. It should get faster as you run it. If not motor is weak or slow needs replace. Just replacement motor as genuine probably no longer available.

Singer One Sewing machine purchased new about 6 months ago..

You may need the assistance of a store than works on sewing machines. Or - try Pushing really hard to re-engage the hand wheel. Good luck. PS - do not let the repair guy adjust your machine. Most men do not sew, ergo they make a mess of all adjustments.

Singer 670 2 speed variable foot control. Slower speed no longer works. Blown resistor we think. Any one any idea what size it should be?

I believe you're referring to the 6700 series of machines. I found another foot controller at Sewing Parts Online for $79.00. You might also keep a lookout on eBay; enter "Singer 6700" as a search term. You can often get gently used or even new parts there cheaper, but I didn't find your foot controller right now. Here's the link to Sewing Parts Online. http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/foot-control-singer-6700-sers-sewing-machine.aspx

I have a singer 247 it was sewing really good but started going slower and slower til it stopped could it be the motor

It is more likely that a bushing internally warms up then seizes partially. A good cleaning and lubrication could solve this. To test the motor remove the drive belt and run the motor with no load, see if it slows down if not see idea above.

My bobbin winder starts and then freezes and an alarm sounds-

Try to sew slower. In my sewing class the bobbin always freezes, and if I go slower it works better sometimes.
