Just this one movie or all movies? Is this from a DVD player or a specific input on the TV? It could be that the resolution settings for that input were changed and are not compatible with the movie you are playing. You can try your tv settings and look for a setting under Picture that let's you select something like "Auto" for resolution.

try using a different input on your tv. If possible try using a different cord to hook the dvd player to the TV. If neither solution works it sounds like a faulty dvd player.
also try using a different source on the tv like another dvd player, cable etc. etc. hopefully on the same input to make sure the tv is working properly .
You DO NOT use "Channels" to View a DVD player it usually connected to the AV External input. via AV, Yellow, (Video) Red & White, (Audio) or Component Video, Blue, Red & Green. (Video) + Red & White (Audio). These are selected via the External Inputs.
Today with HD High Definition TV these kind of problems appears because the new dvd players have more video resolution options, so, for playing all variety of dvd, and home done dvs,s (like family movies on dvd) you need set up your resolution video on your DVD player at 480i or 480p option, not higher because some DVD movies (mainly oldies) have lower resolution than newer , for example new movies on HD format have 1080 P resolution, and if you have this option chosen in your DVD player you only can see this kind of videos, on the other hand if you have chosen 480i or 480 p on your dvd player , you can play all dvd formats including home movies made with any movie software, in this way you can play dvd-r and +r movies and of cours you can play HD movies also.So put some dvd where your dvd player works well (you need see the dvd menu in the tv screen), then press stop. Then press setup in your remote control, go to video resolution and choose 480 I or 480p, then press ok AND ENJOY THE MOVIE. Smart techniques
I too had the same problem. On the Vzio there are AV plug ins on the left side (not the back, but the left side). Use these jacks when connecting to the DVD player and choose the AV button on the TV remote. Viola!
