Sounds like it is over heating. Open the side panel of the PC and check to see is the fans are all running when you power it on. More specifically, the fan that is over the processor/heat sink is the most likely to cause the computer to over heat and shut down.

For HP EliteDesk 705 G1 Microtower
HP EliteDesk 705 G1 Small Form Factor
HP EliteDesk 705 G1 Desktop Mini

    Activity:
    Red Power LED flashes four
    times, once every second,
followed by a two second pause.
    Beeps stop after fifth iteration
    but LEDs continue until problem
    is solved.
    Beeps: 4
Possible cause: Power failure (power supply
    is overloaded).
    Recommended action:
Open the hood and ensure the 4 or 6-wire
power supply cable is seated into the
    connector on the system board.
    2. Check if a device is causing the problem by
removing ALL attached devices (such as hard,
diskette, or optical drives, and expansion
cards). Power on the system. If the system
enters the POST, then power off and replace
one device at a time and repeat this procedure

Hi:
Here is what I would do...
Turn the PC off and unplug it. Then press the power button to drain any residual power from the motherboard.
1. Remove and reseat the memory module(s). Restart the PC.
2. If removing and reseating the memory module(s) doesn't work, if you have more than one memory module installed, remove all but one, and start the PC.
Test each memory module one at a time, until you find the one that is bad.
If none of that works, check for bulging and leaking capacitors on the motherboard. These may be particularly noticeable around the processor area.

SOURCE: red flashing lights, will not completely start up

Do you have a windows XP cd?
If so you can try booting from the cd and running recovery console.
from recovery console type chkdsk -r
This should repair any bad sectors on your drive, allowing the drive to boot
(this scan may take some time)

SOURCE: power problem with HP Compaq d530 Convertible Minitower Desktop

Try this first : Load the bios (F10 - vista or F1 - XP), Load setup defaults F5. then Save changes F10, and try restarting your pc.
Secondly, after restarting your pc, on the HP invent screen, keep tapping on F9 for the diagnostic test
If theres no any error message, press any other key ACCEPT for the 'R' key to restart or repeat the test.
Other sollution ----------------------
Try loading into safe mode F8, select on the safe mode and let the computer stays into safe mode for sometime.
If the pc doesnt restart, it means theres no any HW problem in ur pc. If it does the same, it means, you will need to check your Power supply, M/board with your tech

SOURCE: hp compaq desktop stopped running,

4 beeps indicates ram or video issues.
Try reseating the ram modules and checking the video card (or try a video card if you are currently using the onboard video)

I have an old Carrier N1340 air conditioner that works when switched on, green light flashes 4 times, for a few times then it shuts down. There is also a flashing red light inside that unit.

There will be a list of flash codes in your manual or on the inside cover of the unit indicating what the problem is eg. low pressure or high pressure alarm

I have an HP Compaq PC. A d530s running Windows XP Professional. When I turn the PC on, the power light flashes red 4 times (1 red flash per second). Pauses ~3 seconds and repeats the red flashing. Just...

A bad power supply, OR a bad motherboard. And I hate to tell you, but it's more common for the motherboard to fail first. Especially in those HP/Compaq slimline PCs.

It's because there's very little airflow, and system overheats and burns out. I've had many customers with the same issue.

The good news is you can still recover your data from the hard drive, just take the drive out, and hook it up inside another desktop with SATA connections, or get a SATA-to-USB adapter, they cost about $15

Hp compaq dc 7100 , my problem is that as i start my pc than 4 beep with time interval 0.2 sec with led than after 0.5 sec it start again , remain continously

Are they Long Beeps? Does the RED led light on the front show up?
If there is no RED led light blinking, then the problem is your RAM.
If there IS a RED led Light showing up, then the problem is your Power Supply.

HP COMPAQ D530 RED BLINKING LIGHT WITH BEEPING SOUNDS.

4 beeps & 4 flashes mean problem with the power supply. For my experience, most of the time the PSU is good, it is just overloaded.
