SOURCE: Hotpoint Mistral Frost Free Fridge freezer - fridge not getting cold

We have just had to call out an engineer to get our 1 1/2 year old Hotpoint Graphite Frost Free Fridge Freezer repaired. The fridge had almost entitely stopped cooling even when on high. I was amazed at how easily the problem was sorted. The engineer removed all the basktes from the freezer to access the screws on the inside backpanel of the freezer. Once this panel was removed it was clear that the so called Frost Free doesn't really mean what it says. The ice need to be melted with a bit of simple care. It is obvious that with a bit of care it is easliy a diy job BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND READ THE NEXT PART BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO REMOVE THE ICE> The ice forms around variouys pipes etc and he usecd a screwdriver to help release the ice quicker than waiting for it to defrost and he also used a simple hairdryer to help speed up the process. He had a ntowel and a basin to take care of the water. Next time I would have no problem doing this myself but I would need to leave it a little while to defrost and NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER as I am sure somehow I would puncture a pipe or the wall of the freezer itself and I am quite used to doing the odd bit of DIY. On a difficulkty scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being difficult I would rate the job as about a 3. Hope this helps anyone who reads this about £70.

SOURCE: I just need instructions on

please be aware that the temperature for the freezer compartment cannot be changed, this is pre set at the time of manufacture, only the fridge can be altered. The main reason for problems with zoned temperatures are to do with the compressor over heating. Unfortunately Hotpoint designed the compressor to switch itself off if the ambient (room) temperature exceeds a pre set figure. This in turn will obviously then lead to an increase in the temperatures of your fridge and freezer. I'm afraid the only solution to this problem is to relocate the whole unit to somewhere much cooler, especially during the hotter weather. This should in time sort the problem out. Also double check that the grill at the very bottom on the front, is not blocked up with dust etc.

Wat temp is for fridge and freezer to be on plz

What are your recommended temperatures for the fridge-freezers? The default and recommended temperatures for our fridge-freezers are as follows:-

4?c for the fridge compartment, 5?c specifically for the fruit and veg compartment, and -20?c for the freezer.
The ideal temperature setting for a refrigerator is 3?C and for a freezer it's -18?C. The only exceptions are fridge-freezers in the RB*** range, for which we recommend -19°C (as -18?C isn't an available option for these models).

Sounds like a faulty thermostat, although fast freeze usually bypasses the stat so should then get to temperature. If the compressor and condenser are getting very hot and all is clean, check there isn't a condenser fan stuck underneath that is seized. If not, may have had a bit of a refrigerant leak and sucked a bit of air into the system. Call an engineer

Why has my fridge stopped working but my freezer still works its Hotpoint mistral plus

Possible that there is block on the air passage from the freezer fan which can be due to frost or failure of the fan.You need to check if there is free flow from the fan, also the setting of the fridge temperature.

Hotpoint Mistral Fridge Freezer, freezer working fine at -22 degrees, however, fridge has stopped working and is on +19 degrees. Had an E8 error message a few weeks ago which was quick fixed with a turn on...

Evaporator thermistor is on the radiator located at the back of the fridge. Older fridges had a big on aircooled along the entire back of the fridge whilst the newer ones have it under the fridge with a fan cooling it. 90% of the time the fan gives up causing this type of issue.
