My 52 inch rca projection tv takes about 5-10 minutes to show the picture. At first it only shows red horizontal distortion lines

Hi, this is failed convergence and it is due to a faulty convergence board chip set. simply replacing the convergence board in this set Will fix your issues.

Go to menu then setup look for convergence if you Do NOt see convergence then you have a open fuse FL231 Located on right side of FBT there is 3 in a roll small brown rectrangle looking caps but they are Fuses it will be in the one in the middle.

yes convergence ics bad or caps shop 200$ do it your self 50 bucks if u dont have a general skill of electricity electronics do not attemt but easy fix un plug tv look in back u should see 2 large black square ic repalce them and caps outpt resistors this should fix ur problem parts nte semiconducters.com or u can seen it of 2 a factory 2 be serviced pts electronics.com 180.00$ good luck shawn

Need the model number to help as I am not sure of you have a RCA or a Toshiba

SOURCE: horizontally the picture is distorted (doubled).

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com
