What exposure rating do i put when its dark? - Nikon N5005 35mm SLR Camera

  • Bart Pulverman Aug 14, 2014

Hi Anonymous, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

What do you mean by dark? Do you mean you want to shoot photos at night? Do you mean that your pictures are coming out dark under normal lighting conditions? Something else?

Also, what do you mean by "exposure rating"? Do you mean what film speed should I buy or what combination of shutter speed and lens opening (f-stop) do I set the camera to? Please give me some detail about your problem that is meaningful.

I have a nikon coolpix l100 and I was wondering how to take pictures outside at night? what settings do I put the camera on? all my pictures outside at night turn out very very dark

There are nighttime settings for most cameras. This can be an auto setting where the camera will automatically detect the light level and set the exposure rate.
On a manual setting, you need to consult your manual as to the options of can be set such as:
aperture (how big the hole is to let light in)
f-stop (speed of the shutter)
exposure time (how long to expose the CCD)
Flash on or off.

all of these items should be explained in your manual.
If you did not get a manual, the please look up these items in a search engine to get an understanding of how to balance your exposures.
Flash photography is not the only nighttime way to take picture.

I hope this was of some help.

I want to know that how to adjust exposure level in sharp 1118 or how to make light copy with diganostics mode

l For manual copy density adjustment, press the AUTO/
MANUAL/PHOTO ( / / ) key to select
MANUAL ( ) and adjust with the LIGHT ( ) and
DARK ( ) keys as desired.
l For photographs, select PHOTO ( ) and then adjust with the
LIGHT ( ) and DARK ( ) keys as desired.
l There are 9 exposure steps indicated by 5 indicator lights. (The
indicators light up one or two at a time.)
Successive pushes of the LIGHT ( ) key will change the
indicator lights in the order (3) / (3•2) /(2) / (2•1) / (1).
Successive pushes of the DARK ( ) key will change the
indicator lights in the order (3) / (3•4) / (4) / (4•5)/ (5)
The automatic exposure level can be adjusted to suit your copying
needs.
1 Press the AUTO/MANUAL/PHOTO ( / / ) key
to select the PHOTO ( ) mode.
2 Press and hold the AUTO/MANUAL/PHOTO ( / /
) key for approximately 5 seconds.
l The PHOTO ( ) indicator will go out and the AUTO indicator
will begin to blink.
l One or two exposure indicators corresponding to the automatic
exposure level which has been selected will light up. The factory
default setting is level “3”.
3 Press the LIGHT ( ) or DARK ( ) key to lighten
or darken the automatic exposure level as desired.
4 Press the AUTO/MANUAL/PHOTO ( / / ) key.
l The AUTO indicator will stop blinking and will light up steadily.
l This automatic exposure level will remain in effect until you
change it again by this procedure.

Manual setting is not working, all the pics are too dark?????

I think your camera is fine. The part where you said that the exposure rating was on -2 pretty much gives you the solution. In other words, these settings were somehow changed. The fix is simple. In M or manual mode, with your right thumb, press the tiny round AV button located just outside the upper right-hand corner of the LED screen. While keeping this button pressed, using your right index finger (second finger) adjust the little wheel (located just above and behind the shutter) to the right or left until the exposure is set to O. Now the M setting should be back to normal. Even if you switch to another shooting mode and revert back to M mode, the settings should be retained.

Good luck!

Nikon D60 is suddenly taking very dark pictures

I have had "dark pictures" from each of my Nikon DSLR (D70, D80, D200, D300) cameras usually when taking pictures from a tripod and/or the self timer. Situations where you take your eye away from the viewfinder which allows stray light to enter thru the viewfinder and throw the auto exposure way off. Not sure if this is what is happening to you.

Sony TRV308 Camcorder is not picking up light when recording

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Do your videos come out dark when you play them back? Or Is it dark while you are recording?
If it's dark while you are recording, is it dark in the viewfinder, or the LCD screen?

If your videos come out dark when you play them back, check the manual exposure. Hit the exposure button and turn the sel/push execute wheel to change the exposure to lighter.

If you are looking through the view finder to record and it's dark, check to make sure the window is clean.

If your LCD screen looks dark while your recording, put the power switch to player, hit the menu button and scroll down to LCD, select it and turn the select wheel to brighter.

I had to guess at what your problem was due to the information you provided, so I tried to cover the most obvious. If I failed to answer your question, please comment and be more specific.

Hope this helps, and thank you for coming to FixYa.
