The homework that I am doing wants a number rounded to the 5th decimal place, I need a real number, not e^-4

It seems to me that you are omitting a step: see screen capture from manual (step 4). Hope it helps.

Turn it on, hit MODE then change the FLOAT value from 1 to Float itself. Float allows you to round, and something changed that setting
SOURCE: My Ti-nspire is set to Float. However, on the box
Float on the t-nspire essentially means round to the nearest whole number. Your best bet is to set float to a higher number.
