SOURCE: No sound from Bose SoundDock

I had this problem on my SoundDock. My iPod would charge on the dock just fine and when I played my iPod on the dock, it would look like it was playing, but have no sound. Since my Bose was out of warranty, this is what I did to fix it. #1 Unplug the adapter. #2 Unscrew the four large screws on the bottom of the speaker and the three small screws under the dock. #3 You'll see one long ribbon connection and one very short one. Check to see if the ribbon connector coming from the front of the speaker system came loose from the green board. You'll only be able to see 1/2 an inch of it sticking out, and it's not easy to plug it back in, but it's possible. Just take your time. #4 Carefully put everything back together being very careful not to let the ribbon fall out of the plug again. #5 Make sure to plug in the DC adapter the correct way. There's a very subtle difference, but there is a difference. There are four prongs - two are square and two have slightly rounded corners. If it's not plugged in the correct way, the dock will have a static clicking sound. On my adapter, the words "DC power" are on the top of the plug.

Order Prod Number 041615 , Description: "279103-004 MOD ASSY CRADLE BLK SOUNDDOCK" from Bose spares. Costs £35. Undo the four philips screws in base, romove cover and replace whole cradle assembly. There is a circuit board attached to the main unit by a ribbon cable - you do not need to remove this cable you can instead can thread the circuit board through the old cradle. Then pull out the ribbon cable that connects the new assembly to the circuit board. Installation of new one n reverse. Protect from static by using wrist strap etc.

No, but I have repaired many without a schematic. Aside from damage, there are abiot four basic failure modes. Tony

SOURCE: Bose Sounddock failure

You probably have a broken docking connector or bad power supply. Contact www.invebo.com to get a replacement board. It takes minutes to fit. They also sell the USB charge upgrade to enable you dock to charge the IPHONE on the Soundock original. Try the PSUif you can. The click is the PSU shorted that can be caused by a fault n the sound processor. Invebo will repair it for you too.

When i plug in my sound docking station it makes a knocking sound

The only 2 possibilities are: 1. The power supply IS bad and needs to be replaced. (not the cord, but the supply itself) 2. The 4-prong power supply plug at the back of the SoundDock isn't connecting properly (try flipping it upside down, or making sure "DC power" is written on top if it's a later version.)
If this is the SoundDock Portable or SoundDock II, then the problem is definitely the supply.
Bose can send a new supply for $50+, or repair a non-warrantied SoundDock for $99.

Bose docking statoin

They both use the same speakers, my personal opinion deems they are both the same. However the second SoundDock charges via USB pin, so it is future proof for future iPods.
