Is there a difference between a pc and a gaming pc?
Gaming computers are those typically with great graphics chips, high amounts of RAM, faster hard drives, and other enhancements to be able to play games smoothly. They can be very expensive. Alienware is a popular brand.
This question is certainly dated, but it is one frequently asked so I figure at least someone should field it at some point. My guess is that it often goes unanswered for a variety of reasons.
Put simply, no there is no difference between the two. They each require a CPU, RAM, a hard disk, motherboard, interface (mouse, keyboard, etc.), a power supply, and a monitor.
To the gamer, there is an enormous variance between the two. A PC is what people use for surfing the web, processing office documents for work or school, and other relatively low demand tasks. A gaming rig is, again, comprised of the same guts, but those innards are built for more intense performance demands that many games demand. The cost involved in purchasing or building a PC can range from a slightly higher price tag to an exponential increase. Those increases are based largely on performance and functionality, but like any other products can also be based in large part upon brand name.
