How do I remove all my personal information of my dell dimension 4600

You don't have to destroy the hard drive. You can create a new user account, then log into the new account and from there delete your old user account(s). Then download & run CCLEANER to wipe out all the unused space on your hard drive (you can set it to 3 or 7 passes for secure over-write, this will take sometime).

SOURCE: dell 4600 motherboard

That particular Dell uses a power supply with non-standard wiring. The plug is the same size as an ATX plug, but it's wired differently. If you were to replace motherboard & plug in the standard power supply, it would damage the supply, or the motherboard, or both. Also, the front panel plugs (for power & power LED & hard drive indicator) are proprietary as well. Ideally you should replace it with another Dell Dimension 4600 motherboard. I've found replacements for reasonable prices on some of the auction places on the web. I recently replaced a failed motherboard in my Dimension 8300 with one I got from a popular auction site, I think my cost was about $59 plus shipping.

The other option would be to remove the hard drive, video card (if any), and optical drives, and consider a 'barebones' package from various sites such as geeks or newegg.

SOURCE: ethernet driver for dell dimension 4600

Hi stefyboy - Below is a link where you can download your driver. After you get to the page just make sure it says Windows XP as the operating system. Then scroll down and click on the + next to where it says network. You want the intel 10/100 driver. I've included a few a ways to install it. If your kinda new to this the easiest is the download to desktop method and just remember where it unzipped it to, you can always move it to a driver directory where you can keep all your drivers for the future.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DO NOT RATE YET. Just add a comment letting me know what happened and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks.

SOURCE: internal battery needs to be replaced on my Dell Dimension 4600.

Unplug the computer. Remove the side cover. This is probably held on by two or three philips head screws on the back left edge of the unit. On the motherboard, look for a flat, round, shiny piece that resembles a nickel. This is the battery. There should be a small metal tab that holds it in place. Push on the tab and the battery should pop out. Note the orientation of the battery and replace with a new one in the same position.

I need to remove all my personal information off my dell dimension 4600 how do I do it

Depending on how secure you need the data erased: The easiest way is to create a new account with a different name (with administrator privileges). Logout of your account, login to new account, delete your account and all data associate it. Your data MIGHT be recoverable with recovery software but WON'T be readily available to anyone without recovery software. If you need ABSOLUTE data erasure - remove the drive and melt it with a blow torch. Don't want/need to destroy the drive? You can remove the drive, connect it to another computer (either internally or externally by using a USB adapter), and overwrite the drive with all zero's. Beliefs are that the more times you overwrite the drive, the less recoverable your data is. But more recent studies show that a single wipe is all that is required for modern drives.

The monitor is blank (pale gray color). No information How can I find a monitor to replace it? The computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 series. I don't know what are the video characteristics of this...

Hello

OK, the package comes standard with a 17 inch screen(CRT). So, basically you have 2 choices, you can either buy a replacement CRT screen or you can buy LCD, these are the cheaper options available at this moment.

I would personally go for a LCD screen. the size is a personal choice, but i will not go any bigger that a 23 inch with the graphics card installed.

You will be able to buy it at almost any computer store, and it is cheaper than you think.

Please let me know if this was sufficient, if not, i will try and better explain myself.

Kind regards
Andrea

I need printed instructions on how to install Dell Dimension 4600c power supply. I ordered the part but it came with no instructions.

Power Supply Removing the Power Supply caution.gif CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions in your Owner's Manual or Product Information Guide. caution.gif CAUTION: To guard against electrical shock, always unplug your computer from the electrical outlet before removing the cover.
  1. Follow the procedures in "Before You Begin."

  2. Remove the fan assembly.

  3. Disconnect the AC power cable from the AC power connector on the back of the power supply.

  4. Unplug the DC power cables from the drives and system board.

  5. Remove the four screws that secure the power supply to the back of the computer.

As you add more devices to your Dell Dimension 4600 desktop, it is important to ensure there is enough electrical power being fed to the components. While the 250 Watt power supply that comes standard with the Dell Dimension 4600 is acceptable at stock settings, it is almost certainly not capable of providing power for many more devices such as graphics cardsmag-glass_10x10.gif and multiple hard drives. If you add such devices, you also should upgrade your Dell Dimension 4600 power supply.
