SOURCE: Canon digital IXUS 970IS, pink/purple screen images

Sounds like a CCD image sensor problem, not a do-it-yourself repair, but this would also definitely fall under warranty repair. The IXUS 970IS is a relatively new camera, and thus your camera should likely still be under warranty. Recommend that you contact Canon directly to arrange warranty repair. If in US or Canada, call 1-800-OK-CANON. All others, www.canon.com, select "Support" and then your Region for further info in your local area.

I have purple streaks and black lines in the lcd of my caonon

That definitely sounds like impending CCD image sensor failure. As the camera is still under warranty (being only two months old), would suggest that you contact Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON to resolve this issue.

In all these cases it appears the CCD (image recording circuit) has absorbed tiny amounts of moisture. These circuits are known to have been manufactured improperly. The only solution is replacement of major circuitry.

Streaks of red and green flashing across screen when turned on.

Well I guess you mean purchased December 2006 yes? In which case you could be in luck- return it to the seller as defective - which it is. If older- contact the maker website - this is a defective CCD There has been a recall on certain brands of camera that use the same CCD which is failing early.
