Picture is real dark and no color has anyone had this problem
Hate to give you some bad news...But most likely you have a defective screen. You may be lucky and just have a bad T-con board. Which will do the same thing. But, this is a slim chance of it being the issue. As I have had many of these with bad screens. And only 2 were the T-con board which the color was off and pict was darker than normal. It is the board at the top center of the TV.

Click on the display button (upper left corner) as a short term fix - it will turn it off immediately - not sure of how to permanently solve this though.

I have Sony KDL-32XBR9 and I have noticed a similar problem. When the picture is showing mostly black, for example during the ending credits of a movie, the TV will further darken the display. Once the picture lightens back up, the TV will adjust the brightness of the display back to normal. I just called Sony customer support and they indicated it was a firmware problem and they will be sending a USB device in the mail to update the firmware. Hope this helps.

In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. It can be replaced, but it is probably going to cost you more then the cost of a new TV to do it.
