I bought a copier (which I believe has sat for awhile). When I copy it puts 3 smudges down the center of every copy (in exactly the same places no matter what I copy). Anyone know what I need to replace/clean to correct this? Thanks!

A smudge across the copy can be in many different areas.
Some ideas.
The drum cleaner may be the problem as you indicate.
It may be a piece of paper ripped of dragging across the surface of the paper causing the smudge.
Also the fuser roll coating may be very worn and causing that.
One thing to try that can show you if the defect is on the drum cartridge, is start to run a copy, After the paper feeds and this is timing, shut the machine off when you think the paper should be about half way through the copy cycle, then see if the copy defect is on the unfused page, If it is smeared before it reaches the fuser, it is in the cleaning section, if it is not smudged, then it is most likely the fuser rollers are needing replaced.
First look for a paper fragment in the path, step 2 is to shut the machine down in mid copy and see if the defect is there.
The fuser is the hot area of the machine in the exit area, If you can take a flash light and look in there and see if you observe wear or heavy toner buildup on a roller then obviously thats the problem.

check the drum for toner leaking, sounds like the drum blade.
the drum is a shiny cylinder inside the machine, open and and see if it has black rings

SOURCE: smudges on both sides of paper

in the area from where the printout comes.just lift the printer cover and u can see the area from where the paper exactly comes out when you give the printout.the area is black in colour and the length of that black area is near to 12"inches.and there are small steel like fittings in that area.you ust have to clean that area of steel and also the sides of that steel area.u can clean it with isoprophyll and tissue paper.just OFF the printer and then take some isoprorhyll in the tissue and rub the wet tissue on that area properly.
if this does not helps the printer needs to be opened and that cleaned part by part.
taking it to the repair center is much advisable.as your printer is absolutely ok.and just needs servicing it will not be to costly.

My HP LaserJet 1300 printer smudges the entire document and the toner is very faint. The cartridge has toner in it.

It means your machine needs cleaning. You can purchase cleaning sheets from the office supply store, and insert it like a regular document, hit print, and the dirt comes off.

My HP 4100 printer prints with a black smudge clear down the page. I clean the roller but continues to print bad copies. Should I replace the cartridge?

Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the
top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper.
If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.

HP4-smudged copies of printed text are appearing lower on the page...Any ideas on the fix

Run a 1/2 test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1).
print something. And watch the paper. As the paper gets
about 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover, remove the toner.
Look down at the paper. If you don't see smudged text, the fuser is probably bad.
If you see the smudging, replace the toner.

I have bought 2 OEM canon X 25 toner. They print came out blur and patches.

Hi,
do you mean that on the printed/copied picture the toner isnt "baked" and it smudges down?

If thats the case that means that you have fixing film problems and the cartridges are OK.

Hope that helps!

The laserjet 3380 is smudging down the center of the print. tried cleaning mode, tried new cartridge

Depending on the # of copies you have on it...you may need a maintenance kit....(fuser)

Try stopping the printer (open the cover) when the paper is not all the way out and see if the smudge just starts when it is in the hot section (fuser)...if so, only solution is a maintenance kit.

When scanning several pages of a document some pages scan fine, some you'll hear a draggin noise and there are smudge lines thru the document (putting thru feeder). Other times when you place 1 copy to be...

Well, if both feeder and pattern glass also having line on print, suspect hardwares problem...
U can check below items:

1. drum
2. laser unit
3. fuser unit

Dirty Edges

I'm sorry to tell you, this is likely a drum issue.

You probably need to have a certified engineer examine the machine.

Have you tried speaking with the local service center to see if they have experienced similar issues? It might be free information.

"Clean drum" doesn't get rid of smears.

Need to change cartridge, the residue is not being cleaned off by the Drum Blade.
