The back light tubes are probably exhausted. They can be replaced, or you could try a CCFL to LED back light conversion. eBay.com has some kits for doing that.

SOURCE: samsung sync master 510 monitor display problem

It may be that the LCD monitor will not display all screen resolutions so you may need to change your resolution to match the desired resolution and refresh rate of the LCD. In your case the computer should be outputting:

1024x768 pixels
60 Hz

You can change these settings by right clicking on the desktop and clicking properties and they're under the settings tab. Change the screen resolution by moving the slider to the recommended setting (1024x768)

and

under the advanced button click the "monitor" tab - make sure the screen refresh rate is set to 60 hertz (60 hz)

Mine shut down during my normal working day. Same thing, turn it off and on again - screen flashes up briefly then flicks off again.
Called Samsung and they are replacing it with a refurbished screen under warranty.

SOURCE: Start up problem with Samsung Sync Master 731BF 17" monitor

Hello,

Your internal power supply is failing. There are parts called capacitors that are not functioning correctly and this causes the power supply to not be able too stabilize the voltages that run the monitor. After repeated power cycles the capacitors will hold enough charge to function until you urn the unit off and then they discharge so you have to start all over again. We have a step by step repair guide article posted at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/samsung-204b-lcd-monitor-repair/ This should get you back going again. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service, you can get that information here: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

SOURCE: Samsung 920nw Turns on, warms up then goes off.

Yes, it can be bad lamp assemblies (see my bad backlight album) due to poor soldering works or just worn out. You need a set of spare lamp assemblies to find out if it is the lamps or the inverter circuits, the inverter goes into shutdown mode if there are short circuits, or the lamps are drawing too much current, or the lamps do not conduct after firing voltage is applied to the lamps. You can also have open/shorts winding of the inverter transformers. One thing about the caps are that they can look OK but have high ESR. One experiment you can do is to heat up the caps using hair dryer for about 3~4 minutes then plug the monitor to the outlet and see if the lamps will stay on.
Here is the service manuals, at least you can take some voltage measurements.

SOURCE: samsung gh19ws (920nw) model lcd

Common problem is in the DC filter caps in the power supply circuits, that will be the first thing to look for first, please note that bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

This type of problem is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board. The board is easily repairable, you just need to replace the defective capacitors. It will require a little soldering but anyone can do it. Here is a link to a repair guide showing how to repair the board and what parts and tools will be needed to complete the repair. I hope this helps you out.

What causes my Samsung 920NW LCD monitor to go dark after a few seconds? I am running windows vista home premium. Thanks

If the power indicator remains on, the problem lies in the inverter board that powers the back lights. The cause is usually bad capacitors that sometimes bulge showing they are open. the board needs to be replaced or an attempt made to repair the old one.

If you get a flashing screen which show your screen for few minutes and then goes blank it may be an issue with the Monitor.

Try to restart the computer and go to BIOS setup screen. If you experience the same issue in BIOS then the monitor needs a repair or replacement for sure.

My monitor is going off after a few seconds the power led is on

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

My samsung NW920 turns off after 1 min

If the blue LED ist blinking the monitor does not receive a video/sync signal. If the blue LED is on continuously and the display comes on for a few seconds and then goes dark or dim the backlight inverter may well be defective. The CCFL of the backlight needs several hundred volts to function.
