Hi there, I also have the same microwave and the paint is peeling inside as well. I don't think it is a good idea to fix it but now that I know it is not just mine I am going to take this further. Obviously there is a manufacturing problem here and I bet that we are not alone. Anyone else out there with the same problem??

  • Anonymous Jan 05, 2008

I am having the same problem of peeling paint. I don't think this is something that the consumer should be fixing on their own. This is a manufacturer's problem and something should be down or there will be a class action lawsuit drawn up

Same Problem. GE Microwave oven, model number JES1036PWHO2. Paint peeling off of the inside top and falling into the food. Bad product. Door switch broke after we had it about 6 months. The place I work has the same model and it's door switch is also busted.

I am having the same problem with paint peeling on the inside top of microwave. I don't believe this should be a consumers job to fix the manufactures defects. The manufacture needs to step up to the plate and deal with their defective microwave!!!

My GE microwave has interior paint that has begun to peel and at the same time it is beginning to arc.

  • Anonymous Nov 18, 2008

My microwave is also peeling paint inside. None of the comments

say if it is safe. I am VERY worried, my warranty has expired and I

can't afford to get a new one....I will NEVER buy GE again....

  • Anonymous Aug 17, 2012

I agree. I don't think the consumer should have to do this. I have a double unit (microwave and wall oven built in) which came with the house. It is less than 5 years old, and I was told by ge to replace the whole unit. They cost upwards of $2,000. That is not acceptable.

yes, I have the GE Profile microwave, Spacemaker II, and I don't know if it is safe or if putting paint on it can even be safe

I am having the same problem, but my paint is peeling inside recessed part where the tray turns around. Now is is uneven and peeling at an exponential rate and making a grinding noise.

You need to thoroughly clean it, then sand it smooth to removew all the loose paint.

Once it's squeaky clean and dry, you can apply high-temperature appliance paint, which is available in brush-on or spray-on form at big box stores like Wal-Mart, home improvement centers like Lowe's and appliance parts stores.

Ge micro oven is too expensive. I pay 450 $ FOR GE MONOGRAM MICROWAVE, and paint is peeling off.
Where is the quality control?

Need to paint the inside of my 2001/240 v. Ge advanium what do you recommed

I wouldn't recommend painting it. The inside of the microwave is a box that allows microwaves to bounce around off those walls. If you paint the inside of your box you could have a serious fire hazard. I would send and e-mail to GE and see if they recommend anything that is microwave safe.

The bottom inside part of my Oster microwave is peeling up pretty bad where the plaste circle with wheels turn the glass. Don't use it much for this to happen....is it still safe and is there any recalls...

Using the microwave with exposed metal can cause additional problems. You can remove the loose paint, lightly sand the area and reprint with microwave cavity paint. The paint can be purchased from your local parts distributer, or find it online. Follow the instructions on the can.

My microwave inside bottom paint is peeling off. I would like to know if there is special paint that cam be use safely to fix it. PD. It is not a matter of buying a new one. Is the challenge of fixing...

You can only use appliance paint which can be bought from the local home improvement store.

The exact instructions will vary from brand to brand and type of paint application used but you can follow these general steps:

  1. Clean the appliance thoroughly with soap and water and leave to dry.
  2. Apply a treatment on rust spots to prevent the rust from spreading or showing up through the new paint.
  3. Unplug and move the appliance to a well-ventilated area or create good air circulation in the painting area.
  4. Remove or protect areas (such as handles and other decorative details) on the appliance that should not be painted.
  5. Paint the appliance according to the product instructions.
  6. Let dry thoroughly before moving.
  7. Apply a second coat if necessary.

Paint inside microwave oven bottom is peeling

The oven cavity will probably start to rust where the paint is gone. If you're up to it, sand it and paint it with a color that matches the interior color. Other then colors, there is nothing special about paint inside a microwave.

Inside finish is peeling off

No, if the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Otherwise, you can have rust and arcing, which can be messy.

Peeling paint

The only real danger is if it continues, it can deteriorate the metal, allowing sparking and possible leakage.

It's a good idea to clean, sand, clean again and repaint the area.

High temperature appliance paint is available form stores like Lowe's and Wal-Mart.

Paint peeling inside microwave

If the unit has been operating properly for some time with no issues, I would say it is fine to continue to use. The issue I would have would be with the possibility with the paint falling into the food.

It would be interesting for you to call the manufacturers' support line and ask why this is happening. Maybe they will offer you a replacement if it was a manufacturing process defect. Mention that the paint may have fallen into the food.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!
